TV ratings: 'X Factor' leads Wednesday, 'Teenage Daughter' starts OK

"The X Factor" carried FOX to a ratings win Wednesday night, and it also helped the network's new comedy "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" get off to an OK start. The show retained close to 70 percent of its 18-49 lead-in -- a decent showing for a comedy airing after a competition show.

NBC was way up in viewers (though not that much in the 18-49 demographic) compared to its usual Wednesday performance, while CBS' Grammy nominations special didn't draw much interest.

FOX averaged 9.8 million viewers and a 6.0 rating/9 share in households. NBC (9.7 million, 6.5/10) came in second overall, finishing well ahead of its usual performance this fall. CBS (8 million, 5.2/8) took third. ABC (5.2 million, 3.6/5) took fourth with a night of reruns, and The CW trailed with 2.2 million viewers and a 1.4/2.

FOX's lead among adults 18-49 was a lot wider -- its 3.4 rating was more than a point higher than CBS' 2.3. NBC's gains in viewers didn't carry over to the demographic, as it finished with a 1.8. ABC averaged 1.7 and The CW 0.8.
