'The Office's' Mindy Kaling adds animation to her plate

mindy-kaling-gi.jpg"The Office" writer-producer-actress and newly minted best-selling author Mindy Kaling will next try her hand at animation.

Kaling and "Office"/"Parks and Recreation" executive producer Greg Daniels are collaborating on an animated comedy for NBC about a high school volleyball team. Kaling will write the script, serve as executive producer with Daniels and Howard Klein and also voice one of the characters, Deadline reports.

The project is one of two animated shows Daniels, a former "Simpsons" writer and co-creator of "King of the Hill," has in development at NBC. He's also exec producing a show about a group of guys who share a house in a swanky L.A. neighborhood from "Parks and Rec" writer Alan Yang.

Both shows are in the early stages of development. Kaling has hit the best-seller charts in recent weeks with her book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?," and in addition to her "Office" duties, she has a role in the rom-com "The Five-Year Engagement" (whose trailer was just released).

Yang's "Parks and Rec" credits include the episodes "Pawnee Rangers" and "Soulmates." His first feature as a writer, "Gay Dude," is set for release next year.
