Jane Fonda joins Aaron Sorkin's HBO drama and channels Ted Turner

Jane Fonda.jpgAaron Sorkin's new HBO drama about the cable new business has been getting a ton of buzz lately. Considering the fights between Fox News, CNN and MSNBC over anchors and politics, we're surprised no one has done this before.

According to TV Line, Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda is going to join the cast. Not surprising. What made us stand up and take notice was who she'll be playing. The show, which is being called "Newroom" for the moment, centers on an anchor, played by Jeff Daniels, his executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the boss, Sam Waterston and his staff, played by Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr., Olivia Mun, Dev Patel and Thomas Sadoski.

Fonda will be playing Leona Lansing, the CEO of cable news network's parent company. She's a powerful woman who doesn't always agree about how the network should be run. Anyone else immediately think of her ex-husband, media mogul and CNN founder Ted Turner? Yes, us too. We can't wait to see if there are any nods to their marriage.
