HBO cancels 'Bored to Death,' 'How to Make it in America' and 'Hung,' renews 'Enlightened

enlightened-hbo-2.jpgIt's a bloodbath at HBO headquarters today, as the network announced it has given the axe to three of its series. "Bored to Death," "How to Make It in America" and "Hung" have all been canceled.

It's not all bad news, though, as "Enlightened" has been renewed for a second season. The Laura Dern-starring series was panned before its premiere, although many accounts have praised the show's improvement throughout its first season. It'll be interesting to see how the show fares now that it's found its creative sweet spot.

"Bored to Death" and "Hung" ran for three seasons each, while "How to Make It in America" ran for two.

Aside from "Enlightened" and a possible eighth season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," HBO's lineup will be comprised of all new series in the new year, including "Girls," "Veep," "Life's Too Short" and "Angry Boys," Deadline reports.
