Christiane Amanpour out, George Stephanopoulos back in at 'This Week'
It turns out Christiane Amanpour's big-time career 180 -- she went from being CNN's chief foreign correspondent to anchoring ABC's Sunday talker "This Week" -- was short-lived. On Tuesday (Dec. 13), Amanpour announced that she was stepping down from the talk show gig to return to CNN and field reporting. She will, however, continue to do some work for ABC -- including primetime specials."It's been an incredible experience to have had a ringside seat to democracy in action at This Week," says Amanpour in a statement. "It's been an incredible honor to anchor such a prestigious program and I thank all of you who have helped me on that journey."
George Stephanopoulos, who left "This Week" to co-anchor "Good Morning America," will be returning to his old gig while continuing his "GMA" gig.
Despite landing big interviews with former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and late Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi, "This Week's" ratings had slipped under her tenure -- probably because of its drastic swing away from its traditional focus, domestic politics.
All the more reason to put the show back in the hands of Stephanopoulos as we head into a presidential election year.
