'Sons of Anarchy' adds extra episode to close out Season 4

sons-of-anarchy-extended.jpg"Sons of Anarchy" will have a little extra time to finish telling its story in Season 4.

FX announced Monday (Nov. 7) that it has extended the season by one episode, giving creator Kurt Sutter, the cast and crew more room to finish its arc for the year. The finale will now air on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

"Kurt asked us to consider adding an extra episode to fully close this current chapter of the 'Sons' saga," says Nick Grad, the head of original programming for FX. "By adding the extra episode, it wraps up a magnificent season in extraordinary fashion. This is a real bonus for fans of the series."

Sutter noted on Twitter a couple weeks ago that the rough assembly for episode 13 was a monster -- "seriously, it's like 3 episodes of story," he wrote then. The extra episode will presumably let that large amount of story breathe a little more, instead of trying to pack it all into 60 minutes.

FX, meanwhile, gets to extend what has been the highest-rated season of "SOA" to date by one more week. That sounds like a win-win situation to us -- what do you think of the news?
