'Smash': Watch Katharine McPhee's 'Beautiful' music video

Former "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee's performance of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" is one of the highlights of the pilot for NBC's midseason drama "Smash." You can hear her version and see clips from the show in the music video at the top of the post.

McPhee sounds (and looks) great in the video, but here's the thing: The audition scene in the pilot where she sings the song -- which is only shown in snippets here, is even better. The vocal performance is the same, but the context in which it takes place makes it more of a goosebump moment.

Which is not to say that the video up above is bad -- it's just doing a different job of promoting the show as a whole. What we're really saying, we guess, is that we're rather excited for the debut of "Smash," which will follow "The Voice" on Monday nights starting Feb. 6.
