'Pan Am': A layover in Haiti is better than it sounds

pan-am-nov13-abc.jpgComing off what was easily the best episode "Pan Am," fans of the period drama were certainly wondering how would the follow-up be. And the results were solid.

[Spoiler alert]

While en route to South America, the crew needs to make an emergency landing after one of the passengers has a heart attack. And if that wasn't bad enough, the plane lands in Haiti.

Now on the ground, Colette (Karine Vanasse) and Ted (Michael Mosley) need to go off and find medical help for the ill passenger. This is no easy task in a country that's...well...Haiti. Lucky for them, their reflexes are just quick enough to dodge a hail of gunfire headed in their direction.

Back at the plane, Dean (Mike Vogel) realizes they have problems of their own. As it turns out, the runway isn't long enough for a safe take off. So they need to find ways to lighten the load. And you can imagine how happy passengers are when they find out they'll need to give their luggage the heave-ho.

In addition to all this chaos, Collette and Ted bring back to the plane a woman seeking to escape the island nation. The ending to the whole affair was simultaneously harrowing, depressing and uplifting.

And by no means is that a bad thing.
