Charlie Rose, Gayle King to join CBS's 'The Early Show' according to report

In the seemingly never-ending struggle to help CBS get out of the morning show doldrums, the network appears to be bringing on Charlie Rose and Gayle King as part of total program remake.

The New York Times is reporting that the perennially third-place "The Early Show" will announce Tuesday (Nov. 15) a complete re-do. It will now have an increased focus on hard news versus the soft news approach that "Good Morning America" and "Today" feature. The report also states that a new set is in the works.

It seems that Rose, who is a periodic contributor to "60 Minutes" and has his own program in PBS, will lead the first hour of the show. King, who many know through Oprah Winfrey, will work the second hour. Current hosts Erica Hill and Jeff Glor will remain with  the show.

Despite its highly-rated prime time line up, CBS has not been able to translate that into morning viewership. As compared to last year, viewership for "The Early Show" is down 6 percent.
