AMAs 2011: Katy Perry strips down 'The One That Got Away'

katy-perry-amas-performance.jpgWhen Katy Perry took the stage at the American Music Awards Sunday night (Nov. 20), our first thought was "Judy Jetson," thanks to her Space Age-looking dress and very sculpted pink hair.

A co-worker seconded the reference. On Twitter, some of our friends compared her to Sean Young in "Blade Runner" and "the love child of Grace Jones and Annie Lennox."

Then she started singing, and the snark stopped. Her performance of her latest single, "The One That Got Away," was easily one of the best of the night.

Rather than going for a big production similar to the album version of the song, Perry sang a slowed-down, acoustic version, and it worked extremely well for a song about heartbreak and regret. In a night of mostly risk-free performances, hers was a standout.

Now, if we could only figure out why no one adjusted the microphone for her when she accepted her special award for having five No. 1 singles from the same album.

What did you think of Perry's performance (and outfit)?
