'The X Factor': Simon Cowell regrets outsized ratings prediction
Prior to "The X Factor's" debut, creator/star Simon Cowell was quoted as saying anything under 20 million viewers for the show would be a disappointment. The FOX talent competition is averaging about 12 million viewers so far this fall, so Cowell is disappointed, right? Not exactly.
"I'm not going to lie. I wanted 20 million when we launched," he tells the AP. "But now I'm kind of back in the real world and I'm seeing this grow naturally. I'm as happy as I've ever been."
In a separate interview with "Access Hollywood," Cowell says there was a "slight misunderstanding" regarding his earlier remarks.
"I wasn't saying I want 20 million for the first episode," he tells the show. "I said we want to hit 20 million [eventually]. ... I do believe -- in time, because I believe in the show -- we're going to hit those numbers."
