'Homeland' Season 2 is on: Showtime picks up Claire Danes series
Good news, "Homeland" fans! Showtime has given the series an early Season 2 pickup, ordering 12 new one-hour episodes of the show, which is based on the Israeli series "Prisoners of War" by Gideon Raff."Homeland" stars Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, a CIA officer struggling with previous trauma who becomes suspicious of her fellow officers after a soldier (Damian Lewis) who was presumed dead for 8 years is rescued. She begins investigating a potential Al Quaeda plot.
David Nevins, President of Entertainment at Showtime, says, "'Homeland' is just getting started. Clearly, the overall audience growth from week one to week four demonstrates that this show is hitting a nerve in the cultural zeitgeist. Alex and Howard have created a psychological thriller that holds special relevance in the post 9/11 world. I'm quite confident that its passionate audience will be riveted as the season unfolds and people discover where this story is going."
The show, which is Showtime's highest rated freshman series ever, will go back into production in the spring of 2012.
