TNT cancels 'Hawthorne' after three seasons
TNT has pulled the plug on its medical drama "Hawthorne" after three seasons. The show, which starred Jada Pinkett Smith as the chief nursing officer at a Richmond, Va., hospital, took a sizable ratings hit this season. Its same-day ratings hovered in the 2.5 million-viewer range, and even with DVR use bumping the show up to 3 million-plus viewers per episode, it still is on the low end of TNT's original series.
"TNT has decided not to order a fourth season of 'Hawthorne,'" the cable channel says in a statement. "TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in 'Hawthorne.' The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show's talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with 'Hawthorne' nothing but the best."
The show is the second TNT has canceled this year. "Men of a Certain Age" got the ax earlier this summer. The channel has yet to make a decision on "Memphis Beat."

saw this coming. . .
I never watched Hawthorne until this year and at the beginning I enjoyed it but THEN it got so convoluted with the Marc Anthony thing vs her husband and I guess we'll never find out who shot HIM.
On the other hand, cancel Memphis Beat and I will boycott TNT forever. Yeah, like that'd work.
Seriously - LOVE that show and it's so well done. I'd really hate to see it cancelled.
The first season was good, rework of the second season made it worse, this season was completely unwatchable, didn't make it past the third episode.
It deserved to be canceled after this last season, it was just terrible. The first season was really good, then it went downhill from there. The whole Marc Anthony plot was just lame. I stopped watching once all that started, and from what I can understand, didn't miss a thing. And I agree with Jan, Memphis Beat is a great show.
They'd better not cancel Memphis Beat! I LOVE that show! All tThe characters are great (love D.J. Quayles!) and the music is a character all by itself. You really get the feel for the 'town'. Jason Lee does a tremendous job and whoever is doing his singing has the perfect voice to match Jason's speaking voice. I didn't realize it wasn't Jason actually singing until I read an interview this summer. Keep this show!
'Bout time this crapfest got cancelled & so so sick of Pinkett Smith!!
Actors, with the exception of Marc Anthony, were wonderful, but the writing on the series this year was AWFUL, AWFUL. Plots were contrived and predictable. They could have had a very good thing, because the nursing occupation is rich with untapped story lines. However, the whole Mark Anthony thing was too much of a distraction. Jada Pinkett Smith deserves another chance. She performed well despite the terrible stories and dialogue, but Marc Anthony should stick to music, what he does best. And I missed the quirky characters, too, like the male nurse and Candy. They gave the series a human touch that was sorely lacking this year.
I am disappointed about the cancellation of Hawthorne I loved the show, I was a little unhappy about the Marc Anthony part of the story but watched it faithfully.
