Susan Lucci gets last word on 'All My Children' demise
Up until this point, Susan Lucci has been quite the team player when it comes to "All My Children's" rough journey over the past couple of years. Well, no more. According to the New York Post, the actress who has starred on the ABC soap opera for over 40 years has had enough. She's reportedly adding an epilogue for the paperback edition of her book, "All My Life: A Memoir," and in it she's naming names.
At the top of her list? ABC Daytime head Brian Frons, who she claims made decisions that ultimately killed the soap opera and cost the cast and crew their livelihood in order to keep his own job.
While she writes that she considered calling the network and telling them "F.U. -- and your little dog, too," she settled for telling Frons, "I think our being in this position is the result of some very bad decisions by you."
Loyal to show creator Agnes Nixon who was pushed out under Frons, Lucci claims that the new head writer hired in 2008 led to the show's scripts and storylines declining drastically.
While it may live on -- for a little while at least -- online, "All My Children" airs for the last time on TV Friday, Sept. 23.

WTF is she complaining for? She's been lucky to have held the same job for 40+ years....in a business that most people are lucky if they have a job for 1 year!
Since she has been on the job for 40+ years, I would say she definitely has a right to complain.
I think the cancelation of AMC is tragic. I've watched it for at least 25 years. I know MANY others who watch...many are older and/or ill and that one hour of the AMC story-line is a relese from the sometimes dire realities which they face daily (pain, chronic illnesses). Now another talk show (similar to the View) only with food! We have way too many Cooking Channel Networks as well as "Talk Shows". And even though a TV show may not be a "cooking show"...many regular shows (IE..Like 'Live With Regis & Kelly' who feature "Grill Fridays" when they bring a chef to cook a particular "special summer dish")! I am so mad at "the powers that be" (ABC, in particular)...that i think I'll be seriously considering boycotting that network altogether! I do like GMA (from 7 to 9 AM) in the mornings..but I'm livid at ABC and intend to boycott it once "DWTS" is over for the season (Season 13 beginning September 19.)!!!
Good for her. I don't think she spoke out because she NEEDS the job - it'd be foolish to assume that.
She spoke out because all the networks and cable, too, have started to do everything on the cheap - leaning toward reality which IS cheap - in more ways than one.
I don't watch soaps, but I did many years ago and for many people they are a way of life - if not there wouldn't be an entire cable channel devoted to them.
When BUSINESS people start making ENTERTAINMENT decisions, this is what happens.
I totally agree with Jan. When yuppie MBAs start making creative decisions everything goes down the toilet. It's a shame. That Chew show looks beyond stupid and there's no way I will ever watch it - even though I've never watched All My Children. I've never watched that stupid "talk show" they put over on CBS to replace As the World Turns either. Cheap doesn't make it better and until these money people realize that we're all in for more crap on tv - reality shows that have nothing to do with reality whatsoever and entertainment shows that are not entertaining anyone with half a brain.
I think they are doing a diserves to the people who watch the soap opera. some/most of the shows this fall are terrible. I guess its best to go back to education and chillers junks thanks alot
This is about destroying a program, not about having a job. I'm glad Susan spoke up and said what everyone else wants to say. To make matters worse, they moved the whole cast to LA from NY with big promises, only to continue the show for less than two years. I imagine the actors were totally blown away by this!! I only hope they continue with the online version. I doubt a single fan of AMC and OLTL will tune into their stupid time slot replacements such as The Chew; hope these shows tank bigtime. Brian Frons seems to be completely out of touch with his audience. This is one bad move and a very sad one at that!
i am sorry to hear amc will be cancelled, but this does not surprise me. all soap opera's, whether they have bad or good script writers, have outlived their sell by date.
i have not watched ama children in about 22 years, but i have fond memories of the years that i did watch the show, especially when kim delaney was on the show.
Did it ever occur to you that Susan spoke up because she was defending those who had a lesser voice than she? And it's not just the actors who will be out of jobs, it's the whole crew. Promos for "The Chew started running in July & I've got to say it felt a little like seeing a woman interviewing to replace the dying, but not yet dead, wife of some man. Tasteless. I won't be watching that. And I'm put off by how welcoming the women of "The View" are when the promos run of the cast from "The Chew" running in with food goodies for the women of "The View," most of whom do not need the extra calories. Good luck ABC. Brians Frons, your name is MUD. You've lost this viewer for all of your programs, night and day.
CBS you been on 35-40th years and more because the public enjoy the storys of All my Childrens and one life to live. And you was putting money in your pockets now this" BoBo" decide to come in and make the world happy. I don't know where he come from? ask him to talk to his Mother, I bet she know the soaps,or his collage age child. I been to homes and Srs. homes also Different colleages and they are in the lunch room looking at the soaps. So go back where you came front leave our soaps alone. The writers did a great job. also Agnes Nixons.
