Paula Abdul reveals secret to acing 'The X Factor'

paula-abdul-x-factor-fox.jpgSure you need talent and stage presence to win "The X Factor," but Paula Abdul tells Zap2it the sure-fire to succeed on the FOX show.

"If you want to do really well on 'X Factor,' kiss Simon's a**," Abdul says with a huge grin. "His ego loves that. And the worst thing you can do is kiss Simon's a** because it annoys me seeing him gloat!"

Abdul judges the show with her former "American Idol" sparring partner Simon Cowell, record executive L.A. Reid and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. The show, which will award the largest prize in TV history -- a $5 million recording contract -- varies from the many other talent shows in hopefuls are auditioned and coached.

Singers will audition in front of a huge audience, and from the 70,000 who lined up to take their shot, 32 final acts will be chosen. People will be divided into four groups: males 12 to 30, females same age, everyone over 30 and another section for singing groups. Each judge is assigned a group, and they will live together while the judge schools them in every aspect from singing to styling.

"The X Factor" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
