'New Girl' news: Justin Long and Katie Cassidy head to FOX freshman comedy
The pilot episode for FOX's "New Girl" starts out with titular heroine Jess (Zooey Deschanel) walking in on her boyfriend with another woman. Heartbreak and encore viewings of "Dirty Dancing" ensue.
But the single gal might not be that way for long. FOX confirms that actor Justin Long has signed on for a three-episode arc as Jess' new love interest. THR reports Long joins the cast Paul, Jess' music teacher, making his first appearance in episode 6.
Long, best known for feature work in films like "Going the Distance" and "He's Just Not That Into You," has previously appeared on television in "Ed" and "That '70s Show."
And Jess isn't the only character wooing a familiar actor. E! Online reports that "Gossip Girl" and "Supernatural" actress Katie Cassidy is also heading to "New Girl."
Cassidy is set to make an appearances as a wedding guest who earns the affections of Schmidt (Max Greenfield), one of Jess' trio of male roommates.
The part is currently only scheduled for a one-off appearance.
