'Law & Order: SVU': Lots of clues in Season 13 sneak peek
Chris Meloni isn't mentioned by name in this preview of "Law & Order: SVU's" new season, but he still looms large.
Meloni's Elliot Stabler has apparently gone AWOL at the start of the season, and his absence is weighing on his long-time partner, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). Into this environment step new SVU detectives Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) and Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), and from the looks of things Amaro in particular has a bit of a rough go at first.
You'll also see ADAs Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March) and Casey Novak (Diane Neal) back in action, as well as former original recipe "Law & Order" star Linus Roache reprising his role as Michael Cutter, who's now a bureau chief in the district attorney's office.
"Change is good," Hargitay says at one point in the video. We'll see whether that holds true when "SVU" premieres at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, Sept. 21.
What do you think of the sneak peek? Do you think the newcomers will fit in?

Having recurring involvement from Stephanie March, Diane Neal and Linus Roache is certainly not a bad thing... I'm sort of wondering if Jack McCoy isn't going to pop-up... but frankly... it's not enough. Every SVU fan has lived and breathed and bled Benson and Stabler from day one. I really don't know if it's going to be able to survive with that foundation broken. It's Sonny without Cher. It's Kirk without Spock. It's Laural without Hardy. It's just not the way it should be, damnit!
I think SVU will be just fine. Many fans have been bored with what has been for the past several seasons. I for one will not miss Stabler at all. Change is good. It also doesn't hurt that Stephanie March is back. Season 13, I think, will be one of the best seasons since the very early years of the show.
I agree with Doug. I won't watch it without Elliott being a part of the show. I've watched from the beginning, but without him, I'm finished. I wish them luck.
Although Stabler will miss a chance to the new SVU. We can not judge it before you see. It would be a contradiction. And Mariska is still joy to my eyes. It never hurts to see those beautiful dark eyes that shine like two stars. Olivia Benson is my weekly drops and your generosity is good for my heart. I am a big fan.
As much as I'll miss Chris Meloni, I'm actually looking forward to the new season with new faces. I think it will be good to shake up the dynamics and partnerships. The previous focus was so much on Elliot & Olivia that some of the other characters got lost. I like all the new people they've added and the old ones who are back (or from other versions of L & O). It will be a good season.
I think the show will survive just fine. Elliott had a certain spunk and heart to him that is intriguing to watch and experience, but Mariska has a lot of character to offer too. It's definitely going to take time to get used to, but from a "business" perspective, it is important to have fresh new faces to keep the L&O franchise going. I think what really keeps fans engaged and coming back for more, beyond the dynamic between Stabler and Bensen, are the stories and how they make us aware about special victims. If the engaging storylines continue, then ratings won't suffer, in my opinion.
Now if Mariska were to leave, hold up there. On a side note, I do think it's interesting that Mariska was able to renegotiate her contract given her recent adoption and desire to have a more work/life balance, but Stabler wasn't. I wouldn't say there's something fishy per se, but let's just say "interesting."
Law and Order SVU was the best of all the Law and Order's Mainly because of Olivia and Elliot. They were the perfect team. I don't care if they both wanted the best contract in history, they have paid their dues and they deserve whatever they ask for. I hate to leave Olivia hanging but if they don't bring back Elliot they may as well cancel the show. All the group Fin, Munch, Elliot and Olivia and the Captain make the show perfect take one out and the show falls. I am shocked that the people who negotiate the contracts think that a show so popular will survive without the people who made the show a hit above all the other Law and Orders. I thought these people were suppose to be smarter than that. I am a nurse married to a cop and I can tell you now the patients watching the night that Elliot was taken off the show all gasped at the same time and the ones on heart monitors started ringing like the Bells at St. Mary's they all skipped a beat. My husband loved the show and most of the cop shows I watch he hates. He liked this one because it showed police officers as real people with human feelings. He was really ticked off when i told him they sacked Elliot. He said that's the last he will watch it. It won't work with even one of the regulars cut out. I feel the same. Shame on you with all the reality crap shows on now that you would put the one show besides the mentalist and CSI in the dumpster. If anyone should be made to leave the show it is the idiots who ruined this show.
