Start your weekend with a buffet of bite-sized TV news:- Anderson Cooper will try to restrain himself from a giggling fit next week when he interviews actor Gerard Depardieu on his new daytime show "Anderson." - Pam (Jenna Fischer) is getting a buddy on "The Office." The show has cast Lindsey Broad ("'Til Death") as a character named Kathy, a friend of Pam's from outside the Dunder Mifflin-verse. She'll appear in one episode this fall and has the potential to become a recurring character. [TVLine]
- Reba McEntire could be headed back to television with a comedy pilot set up at ABC. She'll star in and executive produce a project called "Malibu Country," about a long-married woman who divorces her cheating, spendthrift musician husband and moves the family to their sole reamining asset, a small house in Malibu. Several of the producers behind her last show, "Reba," are also involved. [Deadline]
- Laura Innes ("ER," "The Event") has landed a recurring role on NBC's midseason drama "Awake." She'll play the parallel-world-hopping Detective Michael Britten's (Jason Isaacs) boss on the police force; whether she appears in one or both of the post-trauma realities Michael experiences remains to be seen. Innes may also direct a couple episodes of the series. [TVLine]
- Lifetime has canceled its rookie series "The Protector," which starred Ally Walker as a homicide detective/single mother. The show pulled in only modest ratings during its summer run. [Deadline]
