VMAs score MTV's biggest audience ever
Lady Gaga not being Lady Gaga, a tribute to Amy Winehouse and a parade of stars combined to give the 2011 Video Music Awards the largest audience in the history of MTV.The awards drew 12.4 million viewers Sunday night (Aug. 28), a jump of about a million viewers over last year and the largest audience ever to tune into the channel. The show also brought in 8.5 million viewers in the channel's core 12-34 demographic, also an MTV record.
The VMAs will also likely be the week's most-watched telecast on either broadcast or cable.
The 2002 VMAs held the previous record for MTV, clocking 11.95 million viewers.

I think this was the worst VMA's in some years, definitely doesnt deserve to be the most watched. But I guess MTV is on a good ride lately...
It was definitely their most mainstream show, in the sense that everything designed to be shocking was overly-contrived.
Adele worked it out though. She's why I tuned in, and she did't disappoint.
I didn't watch it, but MTV proved once again that when they do focus on music, they now only cater to what's popular. Did Beiber really deserve the award he won? I think not.
The VMAs of my high school years were VERY legit.
