The CW's 'Supernatural,' 'Gossip Girl,' and more get extra episodes -- but not 'The Vampire Diaries'

Good news, CW fans! This season, the network is hoping to shrink those long, arduous, cold, lonely, sad mid-season hiatuses by giving you more of the shows you love. They've picked up extra episodes of several of their returning dramas. "Supernatural" and "Nikita" will have their seasons extended to 23 episodes, while "Gossip Girl" and "90210" will have 24 episodes each.
"The Vampire Diaries," the network's highest-rated show, will keep its 22-episode order, as it has a more demanding post-production schedule. Additionally, Kevin Williamson, one of its executive producers, is already pulling double duty with the freshman series "The Secret Circle."
We're thrilled that the network is further enabling our addiction. We can quit any time we want, okay? Leave us alone.

Hey! So I don't want to be one of those annoying One Tree Hill fans but I do have a question that maybe you can answer. Can their 13 episode pick up be extended or is 13 the official number? Thanks!!
nooooo! i want more vampire diaries episodes. :( kevin williamson better not let the storyline lose its edge now that he's on a new show as well.

One Tree Hill is officially only 13 episodes! and i wouldnt worry about Kevin Williamson he has said before that he wont leave VD hes showrunner on VD and only helping with The Secret Circle.
@Anne, One Tree Hill will not be getting more than 13 episodes. When the official announcement was made that it had gotten renewed for a S9, these were referred to as 'the final 13 episodes.'
Yay for Nikita getting 23 episodes! I wish The Vampire Diaries had gotten more as well, but I'm okay with 22 episodes. Those are the only two shows I watch on this network.
Boo to Gossip Girl and 90210 getting more episodes than The Vampire Diaries and Nikita, though. Sorry, but I just can't stand those shows in the least.
@areeba, I do too. But, I'm okay with 22 episodes as well. KW made it clear at Comic Con that The Vampire Diaries is first and foremost in his mind. He explicitly said that's his top priority, so I'm not worried about him neglecting The Vampire Diaries or allowing the storylines to lose their edge for The Secret Circle. KW also said that he developed The Secret Circle with the intention of having it be run by one of the other executive producers Andrew Miller. I don't think we have anything to worry about.
To me , the CW stands for CAN'T WATCH ~!!! GOSSIP ***** needs group counseling... SUPER STUPID is more like it.. Hate ONE SLEEZY HILL... The TRAMP-FIRE DIARIES just sells dead people sex... 9021-HOE is just pathetic and makes you want to leave the zip code...America's Top TRAMP is what some girls will do for money... these are just other reasons to watch USA NETWORK and basic cable !!!

I wish TVD had gotten more episodes..the hiatuses suck. But on the otherhand i'd rather quality over quantity !
Supernatural is the best show on tv...by far! Cannot wait for season 7! Love me some monster huntin Winchester's!
