'Supernatural': Kevin McNally to play Season 7's new computer genius
When "Supernatural" bros Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) need help on a hunt, they generally enlist Bobby's services -- but there are some things Bobby just doesn't understand. In the sixth episode of Season 7 (tentatively titled "Slash Fiction"), the boys get some assistance on a hunt from Frank Devereaux, described as a "mad computer genius." Zap2it has confirmed that Kevin McNally will play the old "friend" of Bobby's, who helps the Winchesters out of a jam... reluctantly.
McNally's impressive acting resume spans over 30 years. He's best known for his work as Joshamee Gibbs in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films.
For right now, Frank is only set to appear in one episode, but as part of the hunters' network, there's always a possibility for a return. Hopefully, Frank fares better than the last genius who got caught in the Winchester web -- may Ash (Chad Lindberg) rest in peace.
The episode will also feature recurring "Supernatural" character Sheriff Jody Mills, a friend of Bobby's played by Kim Rhodes.

I'd rather have Cas. This guy just sounds like a carbon copy of Ash.
I'm sure he's different then Ash. I loved Ash but I understand that charcaters tend to get bumped off of Supernatural at a pretty steady pace. That's part of the sad beauty of the show. I still am broken up over Baltazhar but I guess we can thank good ol' Castiel for that one. R.I.P. Balty
I think the shark is ready to be jumped.
Great. Stunt casting #4 so far, is it?
We lose the best secondary character the show has to offer, and get this. Give us back Castiel, for Christ's sake.
How is the shark ready to be jumped because this guy is going to appear for one episode? We have not even seen the episode yet Geez. Also, Castiel is still on the show as far as I have heard so there is no need to bring him back because he has not gone anywhere.
I really like Castiel, he's actually my favorite character in the show. What upsets me are the fans (like those above) who make these new characters feel unwelcome. Without these characters (which might not be recurring), the show would become boring and tiring.
Sounds cool! I'm looking forward to meeting the new characters this season.
Given the shows history it kills off every interesting character for "shock value." Rufus and Hendrikson are the two that come to mind, I find it hard to even want to invest my time in new (potentially) recurring characters.
I wish they'd killed Castiel off in season 4 after 6 episodes like they originally intended. He turned out to be worse than Ruby in the end, ha ha. She only wanted to bust Lucifer out of jail, not become him.
If you're gonna get upset about who has been cast to star in Season 7 and who is potentially getting killed, then why bother looking up spoilers?
The majority of the diehard Castiel fans seem to have given up all hope on him and the show anyway and seem to only lurk on these online spoiler articles/forums to ***** and whine. If you've declared you won't watch if Cas dies, if you've stated that the show has gone down the toilet and you're not watching anymore then brilliant. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Give the show back to the real fans who love everything about it and not just one angel.
Looking forward to Season 7. It looks set to be the best yet.
