Roseanne Barr wants back in the sitcom business

roseanne-barr-gi-vertical.jpgRoseanne Barr has more than once bemoaned the state of comedy on television recently, and specifically noted the fact that sitcoms about working-class people have all but disappeared from the broadcast networks.

She's out to change that. The former star of and creative force behind "Roseanne" has a comedy project in the works at 20th Century Fox TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It's called "Downwardly Mobile," and while details are few at the moment, the HR says it will be in a similar vein to "Roseanne" as it follows a family that struggles to make ends meet. Barr and her boyfriend, Johnny Argent, will executive produce with Steven Greener, an exec producer of her current Lifetime unscripted series "Roseanne's Nuts."

The project doesn't have a writer/showrunner attached yet; once that happens it will go out to bid at networks, the HR says. In the meantime, Barr has been talking with Chelsea Handler about guest-starring in Handler's midseason comedy at NBC, "Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea."

Putting Roseanne's craziness during the later seasons aside, Roseanne was absolutely brilliant. It may have dipped in the last few seasons but it was still groundbreaking. I would definitely give anything she does a shot.

Definitely! Her show was real, & hillarious. I would watch.
