MTV's 'Awkward' Season 2: It's happening, so start watching now

Our Monday just got a whole lot less Monday-ish. One of Zap2it's favorite summer shows, the highly underrated "Awkward" on MTV, has officially been renewed for a second season. The comedy series features "One Tree Hill's" Ashley Rickards as Jenna, a teenage girl navigating the treacherous teenage world of clueless boys, mean girls, and mortifying parents.

The series airs Tuesday nights at 11 p.m. EST, and the late hour provides an opportunity for the most honest and refreshing portrayal of high school trauma-drama we've seen in years.

"'Awkward' has really resonated with our young audience marking yet another successful push into scripted programming and the further diversification of our schedule," says David Janollari, Head of MTV Programming. "Lauren Iungerich has created a truly unique, contemporary young female voice, brought to life by the show's incredibly talented cast."

Episode 5 airs August 16, and you can catch a preview clip above. Last week's episode drew its highest ratings ever, so if you don't tune in now, you're probably going to have no idea what all of your friends are talking about on Wednesday. Just saying.

For the record, MTV has also ordered Lauren Iungerich's new pilot, "Dumb Girls." She's on a roll.
