'Law & Order': Get ready for the biggest 'complete series' DVD set ever

law-and-order-dvd.jpgWe don't write a lot about DVD releases here at Zap2it, but the sheer size of this one demands a little attention.

On Nov. 8, you'll be able to take home a complete-series set of the original "Law & Order" -- provided you can find room for it in your house. The set will include all 20 seasons -- that's 456 episodes, and an untold number of "chung-chungs" -- on a whopping 104 DVDs. Watching every episode back-to-back would take you more than two weeks.

The set includes 11 seasons (more than half of the show's run) that haven't been previously released on DVD, so it earns points for not duplicating the collections people might already have. Among the extras are an interview with creator Dick Wolf about the genesis of the series, the show's "Homicide: Life on the Street" crossover episodes, a tribute to Jerry Orbach and a feature called "America's Top Sleuths."

There's no word yet on a price, but we're guessing it won't be cheap (neither will the shipping) [UPDATE: According to TV Shows on DVD, the list price is $700, but Amazon is taking pre-orders at $489.99]. But if you're a die-hard fan of the series, you might want to make room on your DVD shelf. Or buy a new one.

It'll be the biggest complete series DVD set until there's a complete series DVD set for The Simpsons.

You'd have to be a HUGE fan with some extra coin available to get this set, but that price tag is astronomical.

MSRP is suggested at 700, but Amazon has it for 480 now.

Truth be told, that's actually pretty cheap. Back when the Star Trek series each originally came out? MSRP was $129 and if you where lucky, you found a sale. I actually paid $90 a season for 7 years of Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager. Which do the math, 21 seasons @ 90 a pop that's $110 shy of 2 grand for basically the same amount. So Amazon's $480 is less than 25% of what Trekkies like me paid back in the early part of the decade.

Can we please get some Blu-ray releases of this already!

@Steven But The Simpsons are only half-hour episodes, so that show will have to run 40 seasons (roughly) to equal the same amount of disc time the L&O set has.

Why buy the dvds when the show seems to be on every singel day in syndication !!!

What's a DVD?

What's a dove?

@Doug, not just then. The prices for complete series sets of Trek series are still high. A complete series set of DS9 costs over $300 at Amazon. So I agree, $490 for the complete L&O is a pretty good price.
