Jordana Spiro gets religion on 'Dexter'; 'Ab Fab' producing new specials

jordana-spiro-messenger-premiere-gi-320.jpgHave some midnight TV snacks, including news on NBC's midseason drama "Smash" and a guest star for "The Closer's" centennial.

- "My Boys" star Jordana Spiro is joining "Dexter" for a recurring part. Spiro, who also appeared on "Harry's Law" last season, will play a follower of the characters played by Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks, who have some rather interesting views on morality. [TVLine]

- Chill the Champagne, sweetiedarling: BBC America and Logo are teaming up to produce three new "Absolutely Fabulous" specials to mark the 20th anniversary of the comedy's debut. Airdates haven't been set. [Logo]

- The 100th episode of "The Closer" has landed Fred Willard as a guest star. In the episode, scheduled for December, Willard will play the owner of a Christmas village where a fatality occurs; Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) and Co. investigate. [EW]

- NBC's "Smash," which is about the making of a Broadway show, has added another Broadway veteran to its cast. Will Chase ("Rent," "Rescue Me") will recur as a guy who has a past with Debra Messing's character. [Deadline]

- NBC has snagged the rights to an Israeli series called "Pillars of Smoke," a twisty drama about an investigation into the disappearance of members of a religious sect that reveals a wider conspiracy (insert "Lost" comparison here). Peter Traugott ("Ringer") will executive produce, and a search is under way for a pilot writer. [Deadline]
