'Homeland' trailer: Claire Danes, Damian Lewis star in Showtime's terrorism drama

claire-danes-homeland.jpgShowtime's new drama "Homeland" may not be the easiest thing to watch on television this fall, but it could be pretty compelling.

That's the impression we get from watching the show's trailer, anyway. "Homeland," which premieres Sunday, Oct. 2 (following the return of "Dexter") stars Claire Danes as a CIA officer who becomes convinced that an Al Qaeda plot is unfolding on U.S. soil -- with a formerly presumed dead, recently freed soldier (Damian Lewis, "Life," "Band of Brothers") at its center.

The government, meanwhile, wants to hold Lewis' character up as a hero, which complicates Danes' investigation. Also, her character has some mental-health issues.

"Homeland" also stars Mandy Patinkin as Danes' boss and Morena Baccarin ("V," "Firefly") as Lewis' wife. Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, both veterans of "24," and Gideon Raff created the series.
