'Eureka': Syfy orders possibly final six-episode Season 6

"Eureka" might soon close its doors for good.

A Syfy rep confirms to Zap2it that the network has ordered a six-episode sixth season to the series, and, beyond that, its future is optimistically uncertain.

"Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia have brought a creative vitality to 'Eureka' that has kept it fresh and inventive," says Syfy president of original content Mark Stern, referring to the co-creators. "Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise."

Previously, Deadline reported the series, about the quiet Oregon town populated almost entirely by geniuses and scientists, would end after the additional order.

Currently airing its fourth season, "Eureka" is already filming the 13-episode Season 5, with production on Season 6 expected to begin this fall.

If this is the end, will you be sad to see "Eureka" go or do you think another 19 episodes will do the series justice?

I hope they extend the show beyond the 6 episodes.

We love the show. It doesn't get promoted very much, though. We tried watching Alphas, but didn't care for any of the characters, so stopped watching after the first few episodes. So if this decision relates to Alphas, please drop Alphas instead!

noooooooo thats to early to end it we want moreee

I love the show! I would still be watching if it went another 10 seasons.

Best show on Sy Fy. It desearve at least a 13 episode 6th Season.

Why six episodes? This is a very entertaining show. It has not getting old yet.

I do enjoy the show a great deal, but I worry that they're running a little short on plots. Perhaps it's better to go out while it's still strong.

Monday night is now SyFy night. Eureka and Warehouse 13 fill in very good while CBS is in rerun mode. I want MORE!!!

I agree with PollyQ ... they have been creative and the core cast is great. They need to go out on top, rather than suffer through rehashed plots and old ideas.

Eh, I like the show, but think its best days are behind it. It seems like every episode has the same basic premise: someone (usually Fargo) screws up a new piece of technology, that threatens to destroy the town, and Carter, Henry, and the rest must band together and figure out how to stop it. I was hoping the alternate timeline might have freshened the show up, but I don't think it worked. Also, I think Nathan Stark being killed off hurt the show too.

Having 19 episodes after this season ends is more than sufficient to me. Many shows that were better did not have nearly that good a run.
