'Eureka': Syfy orders one more episode of awkwardly canceled series
In a move that makes Syfy seem more like a fickle boyfriend than a major cable network, the recently renewed... and then promptly canceled "Eureka" is getting one extra episode after all.
Writer and executive producer Amy Berg confirms the news on Twitter.
"Rumors are true," she writes. "Syfy and Universal are giving us one additional episode so we can end the series on our terms. Working on it now!"
Syfy's decision to cut the Season 6 order came just days before filming was scheduled to begin on what would have been the final episode, preventing any sort of closure for the show.
So for those of you keeping track, the number of Season 6 episodes remains a depressing "0," but Season 5 total is now a respectable 14. And there are still 5 to go in the current fourth season, so the goodbye for "Eureka" will be a long one.
Alright, "Eureka" fans, sound off. Are you pleased with the turn of events or still steaming over the unceremonious backpedaling on Season 6.

This is one of my favorite shows, and has been since it debuted. Screw Sci-Fi (I refuse to use the hip and "new" spelling) for ending the show this way.
I still believe that Syfy has something about any scripted show once it hits it's five year mark. It happened with Stargate Atlantis, Farscape (only 4 years but was slated for 5), Stargate SG-1 -it had five years on showtime -five years on Syfy. No scripted show ever got more than five years on Syfy. Why isn't anyone asking the network that question?
They cancel scifi and keep ghost hunters there is something wrong with that
Wow, a whole extra episode...well at least things get wrapped up on the writers terms...or perhaps Syfy will get their cumulative heads out of their heinies and give them another full season order due to the fan response. Give them a full season to wrap up the series!!!
Uh, yay? I can't really muster a 'thank you' to Syfy for giving ONE episode to wrap things up. That will be one rushed & sloppy episode, just to give fans some modicum of closure. I suppose Syfy could have been even more stingy and not given even that one final episode to wrap things up. Still, Syfy sucks big time. After the unceremonious way Syfy has dumped well-performing shows without even a full season warning, and the stupid way Syfy scheduled Eureka all these years, I can't say I even respect this 'network'. After Eureka, I'm still done with this network. No more giving new shows a chance. Not when they could end up renewed...oh, wait, canceled...like Eureka. I still hate Syfy.
I love this show and it stinks the SyFy has decided to yet again do away with a mostly family appropriate show which we can watch with our children and truly enjoy. SyFy will lose my patronage over this and other crazy cancellations done over the last year or so.....argh.....
Sci fi has been cancelling all its best "sci fi" shows for years only to keep ghost hunters? WTF?!! Why do all shows that make you stop and use your brain get snuffed out? For more macho shows like wrestling? uh..hello...its a science fiction network watched by nerds not jocks!!! How soon before all we get is FoxNews and the reality show Ow my balls!!
We are doomed to idiocracy.
Syfy should stop wasting money on those vapidly stupid saturday night movies (and I use the term 'movie' loosely) and use the money to keep their quality programs. Eureka has never lost quality or writing, is consistently solid and funny, and clearly some bonehead number cruncher thinks FAKE reality shows with their miniscule budgets are the way to go. Another reason people are cancelling cable by the tens of thousands.
Can someone explain to me how wrestling is considered science fiction, and Eureka gets cancelled while wrestling shows are still on the network? I don't get it at all...
Have really come to love Eureka and it humor, great story lines, and variety of characters. There is nothing else like it on t.v. Hope they will keep it and the occasional inter-action with Warehouse 13. Where do we write to ask for a sixth season?
