Emmys 2011: Who should win outstanding lead actress in a comedy? Vote now!

emmy_2011_poll_lead_actress_comedy.jpgEach Monday for the past few weeks, we've been asking you to vote on who you think should win (or will win, if you prefer) the major Emmy categories. This week, we take a look at a bunch of funny women, all of whom could take home the hardware for lead actress in a comedy series.

It's a deep field with previous winners Tina Fey of "30 Rock" and defending champ Edie Falco of "Nurse Jackie" back again for another go-around. But they're both being challenged by network-mates -- and in the case of Fey, a good buddy.

If the television  academy wants to award a funny-ish but fantastic actress from a not-so-funny Showtime series, they only need to turn to Golden Globe winner Laura Linney of "The Big C." If they want to go for the truly hilarious, then Fey's close friend Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation") would be a fine choice.

But two upstarts could steal the statuette: Melissa McCarthy, who was the best thing about the Chuck Lorre freshman sitcom "Mike & Molly," and Martha Plimpton, who became the breakout star of another rookie sitcom, "Raising Hope," by playing the coolest (and youngest) grandmother in television history.

Who do you think will bring home the Emmy? Vote in the poll below. The 63rd annual Primetime Emmys, hosted by Jane Lynch, air live at 8 p.m. ET Sept. 18 on FOX.

Fey will win....she always does :(

Not really surprised these idiots voted for Amy Poehler. HAS ANYONE EVEN WATCHED THE OTHER SHOWS? Anything related to Parks and Rec is mediocre and sure as heck not Emmy worthy. It's a bland show that copied The Office format. At least The Office has great characters. Maybe you people should quit watching the mainstream crap and check out what Showtime has to offer.

AMY POEHLER for the win...Go Amy!!!!

Jersey scum, perhaps you have never seen Parks and Recreation, especially its third season. Please don't be biased.

I am a regular viewer of Showtime's shows. They star mediocre actresses in un-funny performances that compete as comedies for some reason. They shouldn't be winning.

Actually, I've seen every show on NBC because of my girlfriend. I don't make judgements on things I havent seen, what would be the point in that? But, Parks and Rec just isn't original, nor is it funny compared to other programs. Come on, you can't be serious can you? Is that the limit of your comedic insight? Because if you've seen half the things I have, you wouldn't even crack a smile at Parks and Rec. And no, Showtime isn't the only thing I consider emmy worthy, but out of those nominated, I do.

The ONLY thing Amy Poehler that was funny was performing in the "UCB". Look it up, great show and troupe.

@Alex: I agree that "30 Rock" is over-rewarded but Tina Fey has only one 1 Emmy as Liz Lemon. She hardly "always wins" at this award show...

Obviously if Amy Poehler got almost half of all votes, it has to be a funny show that people like, which it is. It had a slow start, but some of the funniest half hours on TV last season were from Parks and Rec

Martha Plimpton gave the funniest performance this season, she rocked!! She deserves the Emmy and should upset the showtime girls!! Woo hoo!!

Not sure why anyone should take seriously the opinions of someone who goes by the name Jersey scum...

But seriously, while Parks & Rec might have gotten off to a slow start in season 1, it found its own unique voice in season 2 (distinguishing itself from The Office in much the same way The Office previously set itself apart from the original BBC series), and really hit its stride in season 3. It was pretty flawless this past year, both in terms of writing, acting and character development. And if you think it's just the readers of this blog who think that, maybe you should take a look at what critics - you know, people who get paid to write about TV - were saying all season long. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you don't have to like Parks and Rec, but it's not cool to insult those of us who find this show very entertaining.
