'Breaking In' lives: FOX un-cancels comedy, gives it a midseason order

breaking-in.jpgA few weeks ago at the Television Critics Association press tour, FOX Entertainment president Kevin Reilly confirmed reports that the canceled comedy "Breaking In" wasn't entirely dead.

"I like 'Breaking In.' We all liked 'Breaking In.' ... I think as part of that four-comedy block [planned for the spring], it still has a shot," Reilly said at the time.

That "shot" has now turned into a reality: Deadline reports FOX has picked up a second season of "Breaking In," ordering 13 episodes. The deal also includes a script commitment for a new comedy pilot from co-creator Adam F. Goldberg.

Although FOX passed on the show, which stars Christian Slater and Bret Harrison and is set at a tech security firm, at May's upfronts, it pitched in with producer Sony TV to extend the contract options on the actors (although one of them, Odette Annable, is set to be a regular on "House" this season).

The network also recently passed on another pilot, "Family Album," that was in contention for the midseason comedy block. FOX is planning to devote Tuesday nights in the spring -- when "Glee" would otherwise be in repeats -- to half-hour comedies.

Goldberg's new pilot is a family comedy based in part on his own life, Deadline says. It's set in the 1980s and centers on a loving but somewhat dysfunctional family.

I enjoyed this show and am glad it got a reprieve. These type of shows tend to do better on USA and TNT.

This is great news! I love this show!!

I hope the one condition to bringing the show back was that they never use the phrase involving something exploding ever again.

This is the BEST NEWS EVER! This was not only the best show that was on last season, but it's one of the funniest, most clever shows that I've ever seen. So awesome!
