'30 Rock' to continue with or without Alec Baldwin, says Lorne Michaels
Previewing his latest scripted venture, "Up All Night," alongside stars Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph at the Television Critics Association press tour, executive producer Lorne Michaels had some news on another one of his series.
Vulture reports that the "30 Rock" EP has no intention of seeing his critically-adored comedy end after the upcoming sixth season, despite numbered claims by star Alec Baldwin that he'll leave the show in 2012.
"No, I really can't," Michaels said when Vulture asked if he could see Season 6 being the last for the show. "I can't imagine doing the show without Alec, but I couldn't imagine doing ['Saturday Night Live'] without Chevy [Chase.]"
The "SNL" creator also insisted that creator and star Tina Fey remains "completely committed" to the series despite speculation that she too might be more interested in pursuing other projects.
Could "30 Rock" work without Jack Donaghy -- or would you rather see the show end its run with the original cast intact?

...and I could live without 30 Rock.
NBC should replace it with another episode of Community. And also drop P&R.
I could care less, I stopped watching it 2 seasons ago!! Just not that funny.
After Fey started appearing on magazine covers and starring in movies, the quality of the show went downhill. It just stopped being funny. I stopped watching it around 2 years ago too, hopefully Baldwin will go back to movies.
Really? wow I have stayed with 30 rock and its still significantly better than most of TV. Yeah its waverd a bit here and there but still consistantly very well done. There really is no way you can say its not funny with simple analysis of the show. The whole NBC Thursday night comedy linup is still some of the best tv has to offer. Modern Family is my fav comedy right now followed by community, 30 rock, parks/rec
The relationship between Jack and Liz is the axis on which the whole show spins... they should not try to continue the show if the cast does not stay intact.
P.S. @Jersey scum - I could find more entertainment value in watching a dead rat lying near a gum wrapper than in trying to watch an episode of Community... that is the most boring show on television.
30 rock without baldwin is like the office without carell. it might work, it might not.
I love 30 Rock and especially the crossover with Tracy's wife, the woman from the View. I loved the bit where she said "Ham!" Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin make the show excellent, but I would agree with Lorne that though I don't want Alec to leave, Tina Fey really is the one holding the show together. Though, even without those two, I'd watch a show just about Jenna, Tracy and their craziness. I don't want them to stop, as most shows stop at 6 seasons, if they are highly success. I'll survive on the re-runs and re-watching the episodes, but I will definitely be sad when the episodes end. I do agree that the quality has declined a little, but I still love it and watch it as much as possible.
ALEC! DON'T GO ANYWHERE! YOU ARE FREAKIN' HILARIOUS ON '30 ROCK!' PLEASE, STAY TIL THE END. THERE WILL NEVER BE A ROLE SO PERFECTLY SUITED TO YOUR COMEDIC TALENTS!!
Please, Alec, don't make the same mistake so many others have done in leaving a series early. It never ends well. The show, the cast, the fans need and want you to stay.
Kim Basinger wants you to quit! Don't listen to that skannnk.
I know it's somehow cool to say 30R is not funny anymore, but i honestly don't see any significant drop in quality. 4. season had some lows, but 5. season was awesome. Even episodes with not-very-good storyline had many 'LOL' moments. This show is still too good to be true,
i love Alec/Jack, but it will be interesting to see what they can do without him.
Tina Fey should end 30 Rock on her terms and not Alec Baldwin's. If she wants to go beyond Season 6 then so be it...I would still watch since Tina was initially the reason I tuned in to 30 Rock. Has 30 Rock gone down in quality a little bit? Yes but 30 Rock is still one of the funniest shows on TV.
