'2 Broke Girls': Michael Patrick King moving on from 'Sex and the City,' Kat Dennings connection aside
"Sex and the City" executive producer Michael Patrick King is interested in girls in their 20s... just not Carrie Bradshaw.
The co-creator of the new CBS comedy "2 Broke Girls" was on-hand at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, where he briefly broke from his pitch to dismiss rumors he's planning a "Sex and the City" prequel.
"I'm not working on any 'Sex and the City' prequel at all," he says. "My Carrie Bradshaw started at 33 and I took her to 43... the idea of going backward, making her less evolved, is something that I can't even imagine doing. I have no connection to the prequel."
King, who wrote and directed both "Sex and the City" feature films, didn't rule out a future installment of the franchise -- only insisted there wouldn't be any "young Carrie" coming from him.
Funnily enough, it was the HBO series where his current leading lady got her start.
"I was the blowjob Bar Mitzvah girl," Kat Dennings says of her 2000 episode of the series, which saw her character behaving a little too maturely the day she became a woman. "It changed my life, really. I was a home school kid living in the forest, and I didn't even have cable."
Her Pennsylvania family did get cable to screen the episode, though, where Dennings says all of her home school friends and their mothers came over to look at Kyle McLaughlin's butt.
King also addressed the fiscal realism "2 Broke Girls" has that many viewers thought "Sex and the City" lacked. "'2 Broke Girls' is the evil twin of chic lit," says King. "Carrie Bradshaw and her closet were Narnia."
