'Torchwood': Will 'Miracle Day' top 'Children of Earth?'
After what seems like a year's worth of hype and chatter, "Torchwood: Miracle Day" finally kicked off its stateside Starz run on July 8. And while UK fans still have to wait until July 14 for the premiere, fans in the US can start to process this latest turn for the franchise.
With a two year absence on the airwaves, "Miracle Day" has a lot to live up to. Season 3, "Torchwood: Children of Earth," catapulted the series from fun "Doctor Who" spin-off to one of the most thoughtful contemporary science fiction series. It set a high bar.
Our first thoughts? The detail and scope of "Miracle Day" is about as big as television will allow, short of something like "Game of Thrones." The different locations, intense stunt work and effects and complex web of storylines give sci-fi chance to shine.
And while we admittedly love the premiere, subsequent episodes blow it out of the water. "Children of Earth" was taught, with a huge emotional pay-off, but "Miracle Day" seems poised to easily eclipse it.

All the reviewers have seen the first 3 eps way it sound think they should have shown the first and second eps together to hook the new comers.
Well the first episode's writing was really poor I think and the stunts just makes it more theatrical rather than focusing on the plot. They had some shining moments but due to the fact that Im still angry this concept is a rip off of "Death By Interruptions" from Saramago and no one will admit it Im gonna say it has long ways to go to beat Children of Earth
As much as I hate to come off like an annoying fangirl... I really miss Ianto. I feel like the whole dynamic of the show has changed because of his loss, and I'm just not sure if it's changed for the better yet.
The word is "taut" not "taught".
The episode was good enough for me to keep watching, but I agree that there were a couple weak and not believable storylines.
1.The admitted molester/murderer who survived his execution and then threatened his way out of jail. That was completely not believable. He had no leverage. To try and make us believe he did was laughable.
2.Immediately after Gwen realized that there was 4 months until the whole world was in danger from overpopulation, she decides she'll go back to live in nowhere because her daughter might live forever. Huh? How can your daughter live forever when anarchy will ensue in a few months?
Nevertheless, the show got better as it went along and the best scenes were when Jack was part of them.
Meant to say, why would you want your daughter to live forever when anarchy will ensue in a few months
I don't know if I can watch Miracle Day considering how battered I felt after Children of Earth.
You need to check your spelling before publishing articles, because spell-check isn't cutting it! Man, it's sad that people who write for a living can't even spell properly.
I liked it - a good starting point to see where it goes.
The jury is out with me. I liked the debut but there wasn't enough Jack and Gwen together. Now that's been rectified the show should take off. As one who misses Owen Harper a lot more than the often-annoying Ianto I greatly appreciated the shout-out to him. Hopefully they'll work in a reference to Tosh as well (and, yes, Ianto too). A lot of folks are also curious to see if a reference to the Doctor will be made at some point too since the first 3 seasons all made some reference to him.
