TNT renews 'Falling Skies' for a second season

falling-skies2-320.jpgIt's going to take longer than 10 episodes to deal with the alien invasion on "Falling Skies."

TNT has ordered a second season of the series, which stars Noah Wyle as a leader of resistance fighters in the wake of an alien invasion. Season 2 is scheduled to air in summer 2012.

"'Falling Skies' is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing," TNT head of programming Michael Wright says. "We're reaching new audiences with 'Falling Skies' and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next."

In addition to Wyle, the series stars Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Sarah Carter, Colin Cunningham and Peter Shinkoda. Steven Spielberg is among the executive producers; Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan") created the show.

The June 19 premiere drew 5.9 million viewers in its initial airing; the audience grew to 8 million people in the live +7 ratings. The two subsequent episodes have averaged 4.1 million viewers, with DVR numbers still to be calculated.

Season 2 of "Falling Skies" is scheduled for summer 2012.

Hooray! I'm a sci-fi addict, but this is a special show...with good bad guys, and bad good guys. So glad it's getting an extended life.

This show is boring.

Then don't watch.

I love this show. I think the best description I heard about it was Jericho meets The Walking Dead. St

Yeah I gotta agree it is very much like a cross between Jericho and the Walking Dead. I love both those shows so that's great for me I guess.

I don't get why people think this show is boring... I really like it. I totally love Colin Cunningham as John Pope. How can you not think he's funny? he says some of the most inapproapriate things sometimes but they are hilarious.

The show would be a lot better if the aliens were more aggressive. For an invasion, these skitters are too laid back.

I do not think the show is bad, I would not have watched the whole season if it was, but the characters and story telling are very much so lacking. So far none of the characters are all that interesting and the connections built between them and the audience are held together by strings.

I remember when the joke came up with the gun and the credit card, about never leaving home without it. When the characters laughed because it was cheesy I couldn't help but think of some of the shows writing and sigh.

With that said, I am going to tune in next season. Which is saying a lot when you consider I haven't watched a show on its weekly basis since the first season of Sparticus.
