'Supernatural's' Misha Collins on Season 7: Will Castiel find redemption?

spn-castiel-god-pointy.jpgWhen "Supernatural" boss Sera Gamble announced in May that Misha Collins' role would be reduced to guest star status in Season 7, fans were shocked -- especially because the season finale showed us a whole new side of his character when Castiel absorbed enough power to become the new God.

AOL was the first to speak with Collins, who was a series regular in Season 5 and Season 6, about the implications of his new place in the credits.

"I am not going to be a series regular on 'Supernatural' next year," he said. "I don't really know what my role on the show is going to be."

Collins confirms that we will see Castiel in the first and second episode of the season. "I don't know beyond that what the season holds for me," he says. The third episode, currently shooting in Vancouver, is a Sam-centric episode directed by Jensen Ackles.

The guest star status implies that Collins' role is more flexible, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it won't extend past those two episodes. Collins was a guest star in Season 4 and was featured in 13 out of 22 episodes -- the same number he appeared in in Season 6 as a series regular. Jim Beaver has never been upgraded to series regular status for various reasons, but he's appeared in about a third of all "Supernatural" episodes thus far.

Collins also mentions that he hopes to see the character get "some redemption" this season.

We'd be surprised if Castiel doesn't see redemption. After all, his character was led astray by a demon and, despite noble intentions, turned down a dark path -- this isn't something we've never seen before on the show. Sam (Jared Padalecki) had a similar arc in Season 4, and though it took a while, it would appear that he's been forgiven.

What are you hoping to see for Castiel this season, "Supernatural" fans? Will he be forgiven for absorbing the souls of Purgatory and becoming a super-bossy new God? Drop us a line in the comments below and tell us your thoughts on our favorite "fallen angel."

It's *exactly* the same (yawn) as Sam's "good intentions" storyline so I'm sure he'll get redemption. The bigger question is if Dean will ever get a storyline.

in my opinion, i don't want cas to get redemption..i'm still mad at him for bringing sam's wall down on purpose...not to mention killing balty, and the dr...he's lied and manipulated even before he was "filled with souls"...thanks

Fans were not shocked because Misha Collins was no longer a series regular. Fans were shocked that CW lied to them in the upfronts the day before by stating that Misha was a series regular. Within an hour of the series finale it was reported that Misha was no longer a series regular. That means fans were deliberately lied to by CW.

It is a shame that CW didn't treat Misha Collins and the character of Castiel which the respect that they deserved. Misha's Castiel brought new life to the series and many new fans.

Sam has been forgiven for worse things. Cas is an importnat member of TFW and both brothers care about him. Dean loves him like a brother. It would be ooc of them not to try to save him. It will also be ooc of me to keep watching this show if Cas isn't saved and back in TFW this season. I'm not interested in just the brothers and their endless angst. It's boring. The show has grown beyond that. SAVE CASTIEL. The character deserves it and so do his fans. We boost the ratings too and we voted like crazy to get the TV Guide cover for the show.

Completely agree with Twinkie. It's high time Dean had a storyline of his own.

I love both Sam and Dean and am fully enjoying watching Jared Padalecki stun us all with his incredible acting ability, what with the wall coming down and stuff, but I really think Dean needs his own storyline. The only storyline I can say was totally Dean-centric was Season 3 and Dean's contract on his soul running out. And that was a BRILLIANT season, in my opinion.

It seems to me that each season seems to become Sam-centric toward the end. Season 1 was, to be fair, quite level on the drama factor for both brothers but again, in Season 2 and following Dean dealing with John's death, it was all about the YED and Sam's destiny, with the ultimate Sam-centric dramatic ending in AHBL.

Season 4 obviously began very Dean-heavy with the angels and his resurrection and his dealing with hell but, once again, it quickly became a focus on Sam and his demon blood and finally setting Lucifer free. Season 5 went pretty much the same way with the vessel storyline and Sam sacrificing himself to the cage at the end.

Now, we have Season 6 which was almost entirely focused on Sam and his soul and Castiel and his civil war with Dean running around in the background and messing about with Lisa and Ben who, though I liked, really didn't provide a nice meaty Dean storyline for me.

Summary: While Sam is great and Jared Padalecki does a phenomenal job of playing him, let Jensen Ackles display his equally impressive (possibly more so) acting skills and give us Dean girls a bit of hurt!Dean to sink our teeth into! ;-)

I thought that people wanting Castiel off Supernatural would sound happier. Doesn't anything make you happy??

For me, Castiel added a dimension of magic & mystery to Supernatural that converted me to fan. Also, Castiel's supportive relationship with the brothers was a great metaphor for "Dean, good things sometimes happen".

Castiel's friendship was a light that counterbalanced a lot of darkness on the show.

I'd love to see an epic friendship redemption, and Castiel goes back to being the brother's guardian angel. But, I don't see how Supernatural can go back from the line they crossed making Castiel evil. I'll watch S7 for 2 episodes, and be ready to cut ties.

I really liked Casteils character and though misha was just what the show needed. i think you should have more guest stars. i saw Misha on Charmed the other day and he and alysa milano (excuse spelling) had a karma in there acting. chad everette was great. i have to say when i first watched the episode years ago on charmed i didn't even know him. now he's what i would call famous.

I don't want Castiel on the show at all. The Angel crap is over with, done, and shouldn't even have been there last year.

p.s I think he should be forgiven after all he was trying to save the world from the apocolypse and Rafael which he did. granted what he did to sam was terrible but bound to happen eventually. didn't everyone on the show do the wrong things for the right reasons. but what will he do when dean and sam and bobby don't bow down? that is what i am waiting for. so i wish misha would stay get rid of the demons in him and be almost human. also more guest stars please
