'So You Think You Can Dance' results: Ashley and Chris exit stage left
We had a feeling (an actual on the record feeling) that this was coming. In a season that has seen dancer after dancer eliminated as pairs, "So You Think You Can Dance" cut partners Ashley and Chris -- whose salsa failed to impress the judges or the voting public on Wednesday's performance night. Also in the bottom six, but surviving to dance another week: Jordan and Tadd.
"[The voters] must've went to the kitchen while they were dancing," said judge Mary Murphy. Maybe not -- maybe America's just not down with the waltz when there's more exciting fare on offer.
Finally, rounding out the roster of those required to dance for their survival: Ryan and Ricky which came as a bit of a surprise to us and to Ryan who couldn't hold back the tears when her proximity to the stage door was announced.
Also worth noting: Guest judge Carmen Electra was absent. She perhaps had other plans? We don't know because no mention was made of her whereabouts. Couldn't the producers have hustled Kim Kardashian -- who was in the audience -- into a judge's chair in her place? She kind of looks like Carmen.
Well, she probably wouldn't have added much anyway. All the dancers needed to hear was said by producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe: "You need to give us different sides of you now. You need to up your game if you stay with us tonight."
Amidst all the carnage there was one bright spot. And by bright spot we mean well-executed wistful performance from a buzzed about band. Florence and the Machine brought down the house with their "Cosmic Love." Meanwhile, the evening's featured guest dancers -- the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet -- were fine, but nothing to text home about.
And then there were 12.

I actually picked Chris and Ashley to be the ones to exit tonight and by golly, I got it right.
I expected Ashley to go, but I also figured that Sasha and Alexander, with their pathetic hip hop number, would have joined the bottom three, with Alexander joining Ashley on Stage Left. I'm disappointed that Chris was cut. He was a bright light. All in all, though, I'm happy with the Top 12.
I'm longing for the old days when different ppl from different pairs were often eliminated making for new pairings. Sure, there were ppl who were carried-- Kameron and Lacey come to mind but Kam was quickly dispatched after the top ten when he couldn't hold his own. But this eliminating by pairs I think makes it harder on the viewer b/c we can't see a dancer individually in a way. Maybe Nigel doesn't want to do it because the all-star portion is coming and he figures there'll be enough mixing up then. But as much as I like Melanie and Marko who seem like they breath together so in sync they are, it would be nice to mix it up some. Chris will be missed.
Definitely the notably absent couple from the bottom three was Sasha and Alexander who just didn't pass muster this week. Would have been nice to see Sasha paired up with Chris possibly? Though to be honest I haven't felt like Chris belonged on the show this season at all.
I did like that the judges essentially said that this couple's dance was so bad their solo wouldn't have mattered but let Jordan, Ricky and the whole cast for that matter that they have to bring something new to the table if you want to consider it dancing for your life.
I'm definitely with you guys in missing out on cutting individuals instead of couples. It seems like Nigel wants to really sell home the All-Star part of the show and really I was on the fence about it. If you got paired up with Twitch or someone else that really brings their own fan base (as well as retarded amounts of talent) and you can even look like you belong on stage with them you're in good shape... if you get one of the B-cast All Stars it rarely seems to matter how well you dance you'll still end up in the bottom.
Anybody else think it looked like Chris passed out or something at the end of the results? Someone went to the ground and two people bent down to check on them... looked like he was just devastated emotionally so I hope it was nothing serious..
Hello, recapper number Three? A bit annoying from our point of view.
I would like to take issue with Nigel's calling out Ricky for the viewers not relating to him and Ryan, Why not call out your obvious favorite Ryan, who should have been eliminated the last time she was in the bottom three when she did the worst 'dance for her life' then. And then Ricky would have gotten a better partner. Ricky is the better dancer and as partners they have always looked awkward because Ryan is rather 'big boned' to put it kindly. Her arms and legs and neck are thicker than Ricky's. And he is a more 'graceful' dancer than she is. How are the Judges missing this mismatch.
@Jim from NJ - I couldn't agree with you more! I was so annoyed at Nigel for blaming Ricky. Ryan is so off-putting with her constant fake smile. Why would he assume that Ricky is the reason that people aren't voting for them? I will never vote for Ryan, no matter who she is paired with, but I also hope that Ricky makes it through and gets to shine with another partner.
I am also not a fan of Jess. He comes across as very cocky and his personality drives me crazy. Would love to see him and Ryan go next, but the judges love them too much so I'll have to wait until the top 10 when the fans' opinions actually matter.
@jason -- as far as Jess goes, apparently the fans love him too. Not liking his personality is one thing, but I don't for the life of me see how he could be considered cocky.
He may not actually BE cocky, but that's the way he COMES OFF. People always thought that about my brother too. Sometimes when you walk around with your spine too straight and your head too high, that's the way you seem. Personally, I just find him boring and trying way too hard to be likable.
I was not surprised to see Ryan and Ricky in the bottom, because I think there's a lot of dislike for Ryan out there now. I also predicted Jordan and Tadd in the bottom because, no matter how much the judges praise them, they are sloppy dancers. Jordan's upper body especially drives me insane. She has armflappingitis! But why Sasha and Alexander weren't in the bottom is beyond my comprehension. They were awful, he more than she, though their inability to connect is both their problem. I was kind of hoping to see Alexander and Ryan sent home so we could see if their partners could shine with each other.
I could have sworn that Chris faded dead away during the closing credits.
They're doing everything at this point to engineer the tour. No couples are being split because they'd like to hold dances together into the tour. They do this a lot, it seems.
ryan and ricky are both BOOOOOORING!!! they should have been eliminated a long time ago. chris was one of my favorites. sorry to see him go. ashley was ok but definitely wouldn't have made it very much further anyway. overall i think the judges are full of it regardless of their "training" and experience.
