'Glee': Chord Overstreet not returning for Season 3

chord-overstreet-glee-tap-320.jpg"Glee" has cut the chord, y'all. For good.

It's no secret that a large number of "Glee" fans were outraged when it was announced the show didn't pick up Chord Overstreet's option to make him a series regular on the FOX megahit. In fact, we're pretty sure the news almost shut down the Internet.

Shortly after the news broke, creator Ryan Murphy told THR, "I've never seen such a huge amount of stories about somebody's option not being picked up -- particularly when they were always, in my mind, coming back to the show."

Now? Not so much.

At the "Glee" Comic-Con panel on Sunday, co-creator and executive producer Brad Falchuk dropped a bombshell on the unsuspecting audience: Chord Overstreet will not appear this season at all.

"We did invite him back for a portion of the season, to see if being a regular was a possibility," Falchuk said. "But he declined the offer, which we were really disappointed by." Overstreet was reportedly asked to return for 10 episodes with the opportunity to become a series regular in the second half of the season.

Falchuk went on to explain that they did have a storyline in mind for everyone's favorite gold-short wearing blond. "We wanted him back because we like Chord personally and had some good stories planned for him and with Mercedes (Amber Riley)," he explained. "He decided he would have opportunities elsewhere that he would like to pursue, and we can't force him to work, so we wished him well."

Your move, Overstreet. Your move.

Are you disappointed we won't see Sam Evans grace the McKinley high school locker room showers again, Zappers? Sound off in the comments.

Kind of disappointed but working for Ryan Murphy must be a royal pain in the ***. Glad he walked away from that a-hole.

I think it is a risky move. Walking away from a popular show with the opportunity to become a regular and steady work for another two years may have been the biggest mistake Chord has made. Hope he has something lined up because sitting on his thumbs isn't going to pay the bills.

So why did Ryan Murphy create a storyline that could of and should have been developed in the next season if they weren't even sure if one of the characters would even return. Just seems kinda unprofessional to me.

Amy, Ryan Murphy IS unprofessional. Disappointed I won't be seeing him on my TV next season, but I'm okay with him getting away from that troll Ryan. Wish him tons of luck.

I think it's ridiculous that they're spinning this to all be on him now. I would walk away too. He deserved to be promoted. Yes, Harry was there for two years but he had less than 5 minutes of lines in those two years. As for Darren, he had a loud pre-established fanbase and that's it. Chord worked his *** off for 21 episodes and was there everyday. He was promised last year that he would be promoted after 8 episodes and wasn't. I can't blame him for thinking that this was another lie and that they weren't going to promote him. Ryan Murphy constantly seems to throw his actors under the bus. I'm sad he will be gone though because he was the only thing besides Naya Rivera that saved Season 2 of Glee for me. The only thing.

Why is Jenna U even a regular? She never even gets any plotlines or lines on the show or solos. She was in it just as much as Chord was and she was a regular. Equal screentime should equal both being regulars.

While it does seem like they are putting everything on him, it’s not actually true. If you think about it, when the news first came out that he was not promoted to series regular for season 3, people were cursing Ryan Murphy and the other creators. Now the actual facts are out, sorry Sam fans, but it is what it is. Both parties are at fault, neither one more than the other. Chord was probably tired of playing cat and mouse with Glee. Being a 22 year old guy, he’s probably very antsy and felt he would lose out on opportunities if he did not going anywhere with Glee. His declining to come back was a bold decision that he might regret, if he does not find something soon. However, I think that he should have stuck it out and if he was not promoted to series regular after those 10 episodes, he should have left. The fact that he left so abruptly and kind of childish (“if I don’t get my way, I’m not doing it”) came off as somewhat unprofessional and could also affect his future jobs. If he was not promoted after the 10 episodes, then his leaving would be more justified. Now, I know that Ryan Murphy is anything but professional, but he makes the money and creates the money makers. Chord on the other hand is an up-and-coming actor that is being watched every moment. If future employers find him to be a risk and worry he could leave at any moment if they do not give him a regular spot pronto then they might just pass on him.

That being said, good luck to Chord and leaving may be a good thing for him. Especially since many are extremely skeptical about the third season on if it will be better or worse than season 2.

What are they gonna do about the whole Sam-Mercedes relationship?

I wonder if the fact that Chord was originally only offered a 2 episode guest spot NOT the same recurring guest role as season two and would need to take a substanial pay cut and not be able to do anything else besides Glee had anything to do with the fact that he turned down their eventual last minute 10 episode offer. I will miss Sam, but I give Chord so much credit for walking away from the Glee franchise. After being treated the way he was, he couldn't go back. I am not shocked that Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk threw him under the bus, but I am surprised by the lack of response from the rest of the Glee family. I hope the truth eventually comes out via an "inside source".

Eh, I felt sorry for him at first when I believed the spin his people tried to make us buy: that he was really fired. That "strategy" really turned me off. I understand being disappointed not being offered everything a coworker is offered and it's certainly his perogative not to take what's offered to him if he finds that unsatisfactory. The misleading way the whole thing was revealed initially and the deliberate riling up of his fans bugs me. I'm quite over Overstreet.
