'Game of Thrones' casts Gwendoline Christie for Season 2

gwendoline-christie-got.jpg"Game of Thrones" has added another key player to its Season 2 cast in the form of British actress Gwendoline Christie.

The 6-foot-3 Christie will play Brienne, aka the Maid of Tarth and "Brienne the Beauty," in the second season of the HBO series, author George R.R. Martin revealed on his blog.

"The day the first batch of auditions went up for the role, we looked at a dozen actresses who were reading for Brienne and one actress who WAS Brienne," Martin writes. "Gwendoline gave a great reading, and her look was just perfect."

Christie has primarily done stage work in London; her only credit on IMDB is a small role in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." Her character, who plays a significant role in "A Clash of Kings," the second book in Martin's series, is skilled with a sword and serves in Renly Baratheon's (Gethin Anthony) guard. She's also frequently mocked for her looks by the other members of the guard, so presumably the "Game of Thrones" makeup team will have some work to do.

She seems too pretty. Not that I'm complaining, but Brienne is sposda be hideous.

I'm guessing they'll ugly her up for the role. At least she's tall.

Is she built like a fighter though? In the one full body picture I've seen of her, she is waif thin. I don't think that fits for Brienne.

Wow, she is bony! Normally I'd just say, throw on a big breastplate and she'll look fine, but Brienne is an excellent fighter and this woman looks like she doesn't have the strength to pick up a dinner fork, let alone a sword.

So you are basically doubting that George R.R. Martin knows what Brienne looks like?
