'Friday Night Lights' begins and ends: Will you watch on ESPN?

taylor-kitsch-fnl.jpg"Friday Night Lights" is one of the most critically acclaimed television series on air at the moment, despite its perplexingly low viewership.

It ends its fifth and final season on NBC this week (the series finale previously aired on DirecTV in February), and trust us... you're going to cry. Not only because it's the last you'll see of the Taylors, TIm Riggins, and our QB1-that-could, Matt Saracen -- but because it's the perfect send-off for the characters we've loved for the last five years.

If you missed out on those five years of Taylors, Texas, and so many tears, you've got a chance to experience the brilliance on ESPN Classic and the new Longhorn-centric Texas channel. The runs technically begin on July 21, but the network broadcast the first two episodes tonight (Tuesday, July 12) to welcome Dillon to ESPN.

"We see this as an opportunity to deliver the series to a whole new audience," the network said in a statement.

The series was previously syndicated on ABC Family, but was pulled from the schedule after just a month due to low ratings. We're hoping that the numbers work out for ESPN, because we don't want to live in a world where this show isn't airing in some capacity.

More Lyla Garrity PLEASE.

I didn't even know this but I was channel surfing today and saw that it would be running onESPN (when I was on the TV Guide channel). I quickly tuned in...I had just missed about 15 min.

Now that I know it will be airing I will try to watch and catch up from the beginning. I couldn't believe that ABC Family pulled the show and I don't believe that it's ratings were low...that or they did a poor job of advertising it. Because I didn't know it was going to air on that channel, not until into a few episodes in and next thing you know they were airing it at 11am and then not at all!

ABC family wants us to believe that "My Wife and Kids" gets better ratings and is better received? You've got to be kidding me.

Maybe it was the adult themes of the show (it's not even that bad) but some people are suprisingly conservative or just didn't get the style in which it was shot.

Well, I hope people will watch on ESPN...I know I will!!

Will it air nightly or weekly?

Thanks!

Yay! I'm with the other two posters I will definitely watch. Unfortunately, I didn't get into this show until it was almost over.

I hope I'm home from work when it airs (I work until 7 sometimes and get home 30 minutes later) because I don't have DVR.

I will try to watch though!

Will this dumb show ever die?!? I live for football which is why I can't stand fictional stories about it. Just give me actual football.

Bawled like a baby during the finale not gonna lie. Never been attached to fictional characters this much ever. It makes me upset that people think it's JUST a show about football because it's so much more. Wish I got this channel here in Canada to give my DVDs a rest. Not sure I can bring myself to watch the finale again right now though. Honestly left such a void in me. I'm gonna try though but the HD will forever remain on my PVR lol I wanna cry now just talking about it. I need Eric Taylor in my life!

I only started watching this show this season and love it! I will be watching the reruns but still wish another network would pick it up! It's such a great family show which are scarce these days.

WHAT A SHAME THAT THIS SHOW WAS CANCELLED. SUCH GOOD WRITING AND ACTING - SO TRUE TO LIFE! I MISS IT ALREADY AS I WATCHED THE FINAL YEAR ON DIRECT TV. (ACTUALLY SAVED TO DVD FROM NBC'S REAIRING)THANKS ESPN FOR SHOWING THE SERIES AGAIN AND I HOPE THOSE WHO DID NOT TUNE IN BEFORE WILL TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SEE A TRULY HEARTWARMING STORY!

I've been watching for years but may have missed a few early episodes so I have already set my TiVo to record the earlier seasons on ESPN. I watched last night and enjoyed seeing the beginning of one of my favorite tv series.

Love the show. I'll follow it wherever it goes.

My family's favorite show. It broke our hearts to see NBC dropping the most loved family show on TV. Bet your boots and saddle we will follow it from the start on ESPN.
Thanks ESPN for picking up the series and allowing good family entertainment to continue.
