'Desperate Housewives': Should Season 8 be the last?

desperate-housewives-poll.jpg
Though creator Marc Cherry and various cast members have insisted that there's no immediate end planned for aging ABC hit "Desperate Housewives," the show may actually be on borrowed time.

TV Guide reports that sources close to the Sunday night soap say a decision could be made in the coming weeks as to whether or not the upcoming eighth season will be the last.

Still a solid performer, "DH" dropped in ratings during Season 7 -- and is hardly the juggernaut it once was. If ABC doesn't go into its August 7 presentation to the Television Critics Association's summer press tour with a clear plan for "DH," TV Guide cites insiders who say the network may choose to wait and see how it (and its new programming line-up) perform in September.

The biggest uncertainty, however, is whether or not you even care. Will you miss "DH" or do you think it's time for the lights to go out on Wisteria Lane? Have a say in our poll.

No, the show can easily survive two more seasons. Though the ratings have dipped, the show still performs very well for an aging drama. I think that with improved writing, darker storylines and a real season-long mystery, the show may stableize and could work well for ABC over the next several seasons.

Past its prime or not, I think ABC has no choice to keep DH for 2012-13. Let's face it: everybody who does not work for ABC knows that one or neither of the two new dramas flanking it will live to see 2012.

Season 5 should have been the last.

For the past few years ABC desperately wanted a breakout show to get past the Fall TV season and it failed with the likes of Detroit 1-8-7 and of course Flash Forward despite the fact that two of its midseason shows survive BODY OF PROOF and HAPPY ENDINGS and the reason last year could've failed without the presence of LOST. I really think it's time that Season 8 of DH will indeed be its last 'cause it's going up against CBS' THE GOOD WIFE which made its move from Tuesdays so I think GOOD WIFE will crushed DH this upcoming season and let's hope ABC will break the curse with NEW shows destined to get past the Fall season with ONCE UPON A TIME, PAN AM and CHARLIE'S ANGELS.

Time to say adios to this program after season 8...Raymond did it after 9 seasons, so go out while you still have momentum.

Is this show still on? I thought it went off years ago.

Really? I thought it was cancelled two yrs ago. Funny I didn't realize it but it was NEVER a grabber of a program. It's WAY past done... kill it.

It still has lots of life left it in, and it's so entertaining!
I'd say it should live-on for at least 2 more seasons.

I hope there is more seasons it really is a great show.

This show is great, but it's time for some changes. The original 4 should go.. keep Vanessa Williams and Kathryn Joosten and bring in some of the following ladies: Barbi Benton, Courtney Love, Marie Osmond, Rhea Perlman,Lecy Goranson, Mackenzie Phillips, Lisa Bonet, Kate Winslet, or Sissy Spacek. Replace all the men except James Denton... how about Ben Kingsley, Justin Bieber, Adrian Zmed, Fred Grandy, Gabe Kaplan, and Demond Wilson?
