'Two and a Half Men': Au revoir, Charlie Harper?

charlie-sheen-leaving.jpgThe last episode of "Two and a Half Men" that Charlie Sheen filmed before being bounced from the show may have inadvertently provided a way to write out his character.

What turned out to be the last episode of Season 8 -- and Sheen's last episode period -- had his character, Charlie Harper, and Rose (Melanie Lynskey) packing for a trip to Paris. According to TMZ, we may learn in Season 9 that Charlie has taking a liking to France. Had the season continued, the trip would have been just another story point, but now it could be the way to explain Sheen's departure.

What probably won't happen, however, is Charlie and Rose dying in a plane crash: TMZ notes that "Men" creator Chuck Lorre doesn't want to kill a couple hundred other fake people just so Charlie is out of the show for good. Lorre is said to be leaning toward a scenario where Charlie just decides to stay overseas -- which could even make sense for the character, since his caddish ways wouldn't ruffle feathers across the pond the way they do here.

There's still no word on how Ashton Kutcher will be introduced to the series, or what his character's relationship to Alan (Jon Cryer) and Jake (Angus T. Jones) will be.

And in case anyone still wonders if Sheen is truly gone, TMZ also reports that Warner Bros. has taken down a huge "Two and a Half Men" poster featuring Sheen's image from the wall of one of its stages. It's been replaced by one that just bears the show's title, with a new cast photo presumably taking its place later this summer.

What do you think of the idea of Charlie Harper disappearing overseas?

My fiancee and I think the show would be better if Herb moved in with Alan and Jake.

This is a typical scenario when someone leaves a show. The network leaves it open so he/she can come back if the replacement actor or actress fails. Let him die in a plane-crash. Don't leave an opening to bring him back. He'll use it for all its worth. Write him out completely. He needs to realize there's no way he'll be brought back to the show. Charlie Sheen's a loser!

I agree with Sandra. Don't let there be a way for him to come back. I always liked Charlie Sheen in this role. He always was good for a laugh but after these latest antics good ridance to him. I can't wait for Ashton Kutcher to start. I think he'll be an improvement over Charlie Sheen.

Obama is a failure, they should have hired him to replace Sheen. That's what the show will become.

Malibu dude that no longer respects him. Remove him from the script and start fresh.

Kill off sheen's character, have kutcher's character show up to the funeral as his son. Also have kutcher's charater tell cryer's that he wants to stay in the area, then he can move into the house. BINGO.

That's gotta suck for semi-regular Melanie Lynskey (Rose). Hope they bring her back for an episode or two.

I love this show and have since it began. I've noticed (while watching reruns) that Charlie is more acerbic that I originally thought. I don't know if the show will be better or worse for him leaving but I don't think he should be able to come back to the show.

I think it would completely SUCK If the they don't at least leave the door open so Charlie can appear in the final 2 episodes! Charlie made the show for 8 years, at least let him come back for the finale!

CBS, Les Moonves, Two and a Half Men and Chuck Lorre better make an understatement and let this "Charlie Sheen" fiasco go away. Let's hope that the upcoming season will POSSIBLY be its last if the Eye network make their decision.
