Tom Welling talks 'Smallville' movie: 'I don't see why not'

smallville-tom-welling-finale.jpgJust when we're starting to get over the loss of "Smallville" from our viewing schedules, series star Tom Welling drops a tease like this. At a recent SAG Foundation golf event, Welling told OnTheRedCarpet that he wouldn't rule out the idea of a "Smallville" movie to update fans on the characters.

He says that early in the series, producers had discussed doing a movie to transition the characters from high school through college. "We played with the idea and what we found was there wasn't time," he says.

"Who knows in the future." he adds, saying that if he was offered an opportunity to play Clark Kent in a "Smallville" movie, he wouldn't turn the gig down. "Sure, I don't see why not," he says.

He won't be involved in the upcoming Christopher Nolan "Man of Steel" film starring Henry Cavill, though. "They have other plans for Superman, which I'm a big fan of and I can't wait to see what they do," Welling says.

When Zap2it spoke with Erica Durance in January, she told us that while she'd consider playing Lois Lane again, it would have to be with her "Smallville" family.

"I would be open to all sorts of discussions about opportunities to revisit her," Durance said, "but to me, where my mind is right now, it would have to be with Tom Welling. It would have to be with Michael Rosenbaum. It would have to be this Lois, that I know."

Would you be interested in seeing a "Smallville" movie, or is it time for us to move on past the series? We do know one thing -- in the unlikely event that there is a movie, Welling better wear that suit. For real.

I'd watch but I would need both Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum for it to really work.

Only with the suit. Which we got technically denied. I'd actually been wondering if WB wasn't planning to use the Smallville-established Justice League for the Justice League film they're planning for Summer of 13....

I think the success or failure of Green Lantern will determine whether or not we see a JLA movie in 2013. If GL doesn't live up to expectations or flat out tanks, any JLA flick will likely be an animated one.

um. HELL YEAH! I love Michael Rosenbaum but I would watch it with a different Lex too. I would NOT, however, watch without Tom as Clark and Erica as Lois. OMG please let this happen!!! I would DIE.

Christopher Nolan is producing "Man of Steel". Zack Snyder is the director of the upcoming film.

I agree & share the POV of the other commenters. Other than the real life pathetic legal entanglements - I'd watch a TV movie from several series. SMALLVILLE would be on the list along w/ The WIRE, DEADWOOD & ROME. ROME is purportedly in the works. I hope so...

Oh yes, i'm sure we will see it the same time as the Veronica Mars & Arrested Development films: The 4th of Never!

This very likely won't happen. With the other Superman film in pre-production, franchise focus will now be on the Nolan/Snyder project, and both films would cover the exact same narrative territory. The unfortunate thing is that both Welling and Durance are fantastic actors and deserve more work!

It's also unfortunate that we didn't get a chance to see Welling in the full suit on Smallville. The tease on the roof/final shot was cute, but after ten years, we needed to see Superman -- cape, boots, tights and all!

Reading this one blurb got me more excited than anything I've heard so far out of the Snyder/Nolan "Man of Steel" camp.
