'The Playboy Club' dropped by Salt Lake City NBC affiliate

nbc-playboy.jpgSorry Salt Lake City Eddie Cibrian fans, you may not be watching "The Playboy Club" when it hits the air this fall.

The Salt Lake City, Utah NBC affiliate, KSL-TV, has made the decision not to broadcast the upcoming 1960s set drama, also starring Amber Heard, due to objectionable content. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC remains confident that another home will be found for the show, which features mob bosses, politicians and entertainers mixing and mingling in a Chicago club.

"The Playboy brand is known internationally," says the KSL president and CEO. "Everyone is clear what it stands for. We want to be sure everyone is clear what the KSL brand stands for, which is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand."

The station is owned by the Mormon church controlled Deseret Media Companies, whose mission is to "champion values that have been cherished by good people from diverse backgrounds for centuries."

What do you think, Zappers? Is KSL making a mistake, or will "The Playboy Club" be too risque for Utah viewers?

This is nothing new for KSL. They refused to air the "Couples" remake a few years back and still won't broadcast Saturday Night Live. Utah viewers shouldn't worry. The CW affiliate in Salt Lake City (CW30) usually serves as the outlet for NBC programming rejected by KSL.

I am proud that we have networks who stand up for good values.

Meh! Looks like a stupid show anyways.

Is it really 2002 already since the city hosted the Winter Olympics back then?

Just how does Utah reconcile that they want "smaller government", yet imposes a Nanny state on them when it comes to watching TV?

Good point, floyd. Right wingers only want smaller government when it comes to regulations which limit their ability to make money. They have no problem imposing their values on others. It is hypocritical to say the least.

What I find most interesting about this decision is that it seems to have been made based on the use of the reference to Playboy. I wonder if the content will be any more objectionable than alot of the other stuff on that network.

It has nothing to do with the government. The decision was made by KSL-TV which, as the article states, "is owned by the Mormon church controlled Deseret Media Companies".

It figures that a religion that had a history of sex with multiple wives is now so hung up about and afraid of a program that shows people drinking alcohol and off a bit of T&A. Maybe they're worried that some good Mormon lads will pollute their magic underwear.
