The legendary Patti LaBelle: Cee Lo Green pays tribute, plays dress-up at BET Awards

cee-lo-labelle.jpgIs there any greater honor than having Cee Lo Green dress up like you?

Okay, yes, there probably is. Still, Cee Lo had a blast at the BET Awards on Sunday night, paying homage to legendary singer Patti Labelle when she was honored with the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award.

She was introduced by the women in music she has influenced -- Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige -- as well as Gladys Knight, who is herself a recipient. Still, the highlight of the tribute was Cee Lo's performance of "Somebody Loves You Baby," in which he wore an enormous wig which he'd occasionally pause to touch up with hair spray.

Labelle seemed delighted by the performance, taking the stage at the end to give the audience a taste of her hits "Lady Marmalade" and "Love, Need, and Want You."

"I would like to thank everybody for everything you've done for me," she said when she accepted the award. "I plan to hold myself higher because I have gotten this wonderful award."

Labelle, 67, is still touring frequently, and will next bring her show to Chicago on July 18.
