'Supernatural's' Jared Padalecki talks 'Gilmore Girls' movie - plus, would he ever leave 'Supernatural'?

jared-padalecki-gilmore-supernatural-320.jpg"Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki recently won NextMovie's poll about TV stars fans would like to see get big movie careers -- but don't worry, "Supernatural" fans. Even if a fantastic movie role comes his way, he's not interested in ditching Sam Winchester any time soon.

"I wouldn't. I'm a Texas guy, and the good and bad of that is that I'm always, first and foremost, loyal. If it weren't for 'Supernatural,' I wouldn't have a lot of the blessings that I have today, so I'm going to play it out," he tells the site. "I'm going to give it my all. I'll be with the cast and crew for the remainder, as long as the fans want us on the air and the network obliges. I'd love to have a movie career. I'm still pretty young. I'm not going to be 29 for another month. So if the show goes another year, I'm 30. If it goes for five years, I'm 34. I think I'm hopefully in the dawn of my career, not in the dusk, so I think I'd be happier sticking it out with 'Supernatural.'"

He still has a lot of love for his first TV gig, too, as the perpetually lovelorn Dean Forester on "Gilmore Girls." Padalecki says that if a "Gilmore Girls" movie gets made, he wouldn't hesitate for a moment in signing on.

"One hundred percent!" he says. "I would love to. I really would truly love to. It was so fun. I have nothing but fond memories of that show. I came to it straight out of high school, I grew up on the show, and I'd love to go revisit that character."

As for other movie dreams, Padalecki says his career idols are Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp. He recently read "Lone Survivor," an eye-witness account of a fallen team of Navy Seals on a reconnaissance mission on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. "I would love to play Marcus Luttrell, who was the author and the 'lone survivor.' He's a national hero; he's very courageous and heroic in insurmountable danger, so it's something I'd love to explore. And being involved in - what, three wars, right now? The U.S? -- it's easy to sit here and worry about rats in my vents and wisdom teeth being pulled. Meanwhile, there are a lot of people who don't have running water and... [there are men and women] fighting for our freedom. I'm really grateful for that and I'd love to explore that on screen."

Padalecki comes by the interest in war movies honestly, but they're not the only genre he's interested in. "My father's a big war buff, so I became a big war buff," he says. "Anything having to do with World War II, I'd love to be a part of. I'd love to do a war movie in some way, shape or form. I'd [also] love to do a comedy. I'm terrified of comedy. I don't think I'm funny, but I guess that's why it's so thrilling."

"Gilmore Girls" was totally a comedy. Just saying.

He will never have a movie career. It's Jensen that deserves the career and Jared never would have won this poll if it wasn't rigged because Jensen wasn't even ON the poll.

Cool. He was actually quite good in Friday the 13th (about the only thing) and seemed to command the screen surprisingly well. But I am impressed with the loyalty to his current gig, so good for him.

lol Wait a minute...you're accusing a poll that only Jared was a part of rigged because Jensen wasn't on it? They made their own nominations on who they wanted, and it was actors under age 30 in case you didn't notice. Jensen is OVER 30. Get off of your high horse. It's nice to see that Jared won something for once without having to go against Jensen and that fans actually DO love and support him. Just because Jensen wasn't on the poll doesn't mean it's rigged and Jensen isn't the only TV actor who deserves to be a movie star in the making either.

Jared - Not Funny?
He's f-ing hilarious in my opinion. I love watching old con-videos because he can make me laugh so hard xD
I hope he never leaves SPN, donno what I'd do without following Sam's and Dean's story.
And if you, Jared, ever reads my comment, I LOVE YOU! And I'm guessing thousands of other fans stand with me on that point. And I believe you would be great in a comedy. Bad Day at Black Rock says it all.
Love

@Chlo Harsh...

I'd love to see Jared (and Jensen) do something outside of the horror genre whether it's TV, movies, whatever. Good to hear that Jared plans to stick with Supernatch.

Jared is awesome..he deserves a LOT!!!!I love him!!

@ Chlo: That was unnecessarily rude. Jared isn't any less deserving of a movie career than anyone else who wants it and goes after it. Furthermore, why should it be Jensen INSTEAD of Jared? Is there some law requiring that only one of the two Supernatural leads can have a successful movie career if that's what they choose to do? I think BOTH Jared and Jensen do great work on Supernatural, and I really applaud Jared for realizing how special Supernatural is and working so hard to make the show great. That's why his fans love him. He's a very humble and kind person. Cheers, Jared.

i just wanted to express my support of jared..i love his loyalty in all areas of his life...

and for the record, both jared and jensen deserve a great movie career..and i'm sure they both support each other..i thought that first post was rude (just my opinion tho)

Yeah, first post is way out of line. Both are incredibly talented actors and genuinely nice guys. Jared earns every accolade he receives. I hope Jared has a successful movie career, but after many many seasons of Supernatural. :)
