Niecy Nash dishes on her 'Wedding Bash,' plus a sneak peek!
If you were to tell us that Niecy Nash, a star with more than 70,000 followers on Twitter, a healthy Hollywood resume, and a two-hour TLC special about her wedding was still very humble, we wouldn't believe you. But, there are times when we witness such a phenomenon for ourselves.
During her wedding last week during Memorial Day weekend, the actress was trending on Google and she had some unexpected guests show up.
"I was most surprised by the paparazzi showing up," Nash tells Zap2it. "I just didn't think that for me. I was like, 'Yes, they would be hovering over Kim [Kardashian] when she gets married. Oh my goodness, if someone put a ring on Paris [Hilton], it's going down.' But, I'm Niecy Nash."
"I didn't see that part coming," she continues. "I'm just a little black girl from Compton."
Well, she better get used to the attention. "Niecy Nash's Wedding Bash" premieres Saturday, June 4 at 8 pm ET on TLC. It follows the funny lady as she plans her wedding with just three months to spare all the way through to the joyous event.
So, why would someone allow cameras to capture every moment of their wedding drama? Nash has a special reason why she agreed to do the special.
"I wanted women to know that it's never too late to get a do-over with love," Nash, whose first marriage lasted 16 years, says. "I am 41 years old, I have three children, and I'm beginning again. I'm in a situation where something is fresher and richer than I ever thought it would be. And I don't want women to get stuck in that place of 'It can't happen to me, because I've already been there.' Yes, it can."
"As long as you have a day above ground," the star says. "You have a chance to go back and get something right."
Of course, it took a bit of convincing to get her very un-Hollywood then-fiancé, Jay Tucker, to agree to have it all shot for TV. "He's an electrical engineer," she tells us about her new husband. "And he would be perfectly fine if a camera never showed up."
"My husband was not the kind of man who was just ripe for the camera," she says. "He's my husband now, but when he was my fiancé, I asked him, 'What are your thoughts about this?" He was like, 'Yeah, not so much.' I had to work my feminine wiles on him to convince him."
So, the show went on. Nash invited 200 guests to her Malibu wedding: A mix of family and friends, including what Nash calls her "Reno 911," "Dancing with the Stars," and "Clean House" families. Her matron of honor was "Moesha's" Sheryl Lee Ralph and "The View's" Sherri Shepherd was one of her bridesmaids. Plus, R&B star and actress, Brandy, sang "At Last."
So, how did Nash's family get along with her Hollywood friends? "All those people got along fantastically," she tells us. "You got to remember we had great food and an open bar. Who can't get along?"

I could never say anything negative about her. She is great, nice, wonderful, would be a great friend with that great big heart she has. I have watched her shows and her on talk shows, this article proved what I believed about her that she is an angel that walks on earth being a very positive role model and just plain nice !!!
Niecy Nash makes me smile, laugh, cry and have faith that I too can find my "Prince". Most reality shows feel fake, but Ms. Niecy it is obvious this is genuine.
I think I have seen him in some other show, and I LOVE her husband to be - J.
