MTV shoots down 'Jersey Shore' recasting rumors

jersey-shore-s3-cast.jpgEarlier today, several outlets reported that MTV plans to recast "Jersey Shore" after the current cast members wraps Season 5.

A source told US Weekly, "After this group comes back from Italy and shoots Season 5 this summer, that will be the end for them." With the housemates each making a reported $100,000 per episode, the source says the new stars will be "a lot cheaper."

TMZ also reported the news, adding MTV wants a "fresh cast of characters."

MTV is quick to deny reports that they are recasting their hit show. "We love the present cast, and their summer adventures have just begun," a MTV spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. "We currently have no plans to recast the show."

Though there are no plans to recast the show, three of the show's original cast members have signed up for spinoffs on the network (set to air in 2012). Jennie J-Woww" Farley and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi will star on a reality show together and Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio will have a camera crew chronicle his life as a DJ.

Season 4 will premiere on Aug.  4, while Season 5 is set to begin production on Monday in Seaside, N.J.
