'Game of Thrones' Season 2: A 'Doctor' in the house?

We don't usually write about casting rumors before they pass through the semi-official filters of the showbiz trade papers and websites. But the latest whispers about Season 2 of "Game of Thrones" are too enticing not to pass along.Former "Doctor Who" star Christopher Eccleston may be joining the cast, and the role he's been linked to most is that of Stannis Baratheon, the younger brother of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy).
To reiterate, it's far from a done deal -- even the site that first floated Eccleston's name, Den of Geek, says the reports of him (as well as "The Pillars of the Earth's" Tony Curran) joining the show are just "unconfirmed rumors" at the moment. But still, the thought of Eccleston joining the show as Stannis (or another character, for that matter) is awfully fun to consider.
Eccleston would also be about the right age to play Balon Greyjoy, the father of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and a key player in "A Clash of Kings," the second book in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire," on which the series is based.
So far the only confirmed new cast member for Season 2 is Natalie Dormer ("The Tudors"), who will play Margaery Tyrell.
Eccleston played the title character on "Doctor Who" when the series was revived in 2005. His credits also include a guest arc on the first season of "Heroes," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," "Elizabeth" and "28 Days Later."

Stannis is the older Brother, Renly is the younger...which are we talking about?
Have always envisioned Helena Bonham Carter playing Melissandre...but know she's way too big of a name to play the role. Still, one can dream!
Tony Curran has red hair. He can be the Greyjoy father.
Stannis is the middle Baratheon brother - older than renly younger than robert - Eccleston would be great in that role

I woudl love this to happen. Eccleston is Awesome. I love him in Shallow Grave, Second Coming, I am Dina, Jude, and so many more brilliant roles.
I dont care who they bring in to play whoever, just give me more. It's seven books of A song of Ice and Fire so I want seven seasons.
I would love to see Tom Baker come back as the shadow of the current doctor. It would liven things up for the current doctor and make the show more interesting.
As good a series as some people think it is its way too violent and bloody! They rely too heavily on shock blood and gore alot of which is gratuitous!
