'Falling Skies': Noah Wyle and aliens give TNT a huge ratings win
TNT's post-alien-invasion drama "Falling Skies" just became the biggest cable series launch of 2011 -- though it still didn't come close to matching 2010 winner, "Rizzoli & Isles."
The Steven Spielberg-produced series, starring "ER" veteran Noah Wyle, brought in 5.91 million viewers over the course of its two-hour premiere, according to Neilsen. That makes it the most-watched cable premiere of the year -- and the highest cable premiere ratings since "Rizzoli" debuted to 7.6 million on the same network in July, 2010.
"Skies" managed to do well in the adults 18-49, grabbing 2.6 million in the demo.
"The enormous success of 'Falling Skies' demonstrates what can happen when you partner with the best people in the business and give them what they need to do their very best work," said executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies Michael Wright. "This certainly bodes well for the possibility of the show being renewed for a second season."
Adding to the good will towards "Falling Skies" is its comparative success to one of TNT's other summer launches."Franklin and Bash" averaged only 2.7 million viewers on its first night out.

Great program. Decent special effects. It must be expensive to produce based on the massive number of commercials that were shown....
Hoping that FALLING SKIES could end up with another sci-fi series TERRA NOVA with poor ratings.
As a sci-fi fan, I was looking forward to this, especially with the credits it brought. That said, although I've heard the pilot was the weakest episode, it better get better quick. Lots of plot holes, but I'm open minded enough to give it a chance. There have been several shows that have gotten better over a season and I hope this is one.
If this show isn't a lot better by the next episode, then i'm not watching anymore!! I'm not that patient anymore, Walking Dead was brilliant right out of the gate....
episode 1=terrrible.
episode 2: could they throw in any more cliched crap.
If TNT picked up "V" they could draw in over twice those viewers....
