'Days of Our Lives' gay storyline: '90210' hottie heads to Salem

"Days of Our Lives" has been on the air for nearly half a century, but has never had a gay storyline... until now. Freddie Smith, who starred as recurring gay character Marco on the last season of "90210," will arrive in Salem on the June 23 episode to begin the first gay romance in the show's history.Entertainment Weekly spoke with Smith about the new role. "There are a lot of guys on the show, so it's going to be interesting to see who I end up falling for. Someone new? Someone on the show?" he says. "We all make jokes, 'who am I going to make out with first?' It's going to be fun to see."
On "90210," Smith played the boyfriend of Trevor Donovan's character, but now that Donovan is no longer a regular cast member, we're unlikely to see much more of Smith.

I will be turning the channel as my stomach turns if they start this gay crap. We all heard poor Will is gonna all of a sudden decide he is gay. I think the producer and the writers need to rethink their decision. It will make alot of veteran viewers unhappy and will lose them and I hope sponsors as well.
Please...please no gay story lines. It will make many of us who have been watching for years very unhappy. Certainly, the writers can make the show interesting without that.

Looking forward to the day when "Gay" is not a storyline, but just is. Just another romance -- two men or two women. Oh yeah, I also look forward to the day that happens in real-life. Acceptance. Understanding. Intelligence.
Some people's comments are so anti-gay its disgusting. There is absolutely no reason why they should not include a gay romance. And for those of you talking about veteran watchers getting angry - newsflash, these aging veteran actors are outdated and irrelevant, Days needs new younger viewers, they really dont care about what 50, 60 or 70 somethings have to say.
I said it once, and I'll say it again. HOMOSEXUALS ARE LOSING FAVOR IN THE STRAIGHT COMMUNITY BECAUSE YOU REMIND US EVERYDAY THAT YOU ARE GAY. It's tired and repetitive. Sick of it. Why not a Pixar film with gay animals???? Might as well!
To Jersey Scum: I bet white people sounded a lot like you after they started putting people of color on television. "...you remind us everyday." Well, they sort of are gay everyday just like you are presumably straight everyday. It's not like straight people have to hide who they are most of the time. Hooray for a show that is simply keeping it real.
So sad Days feels like they must do this to keep up--shows total lack of creativity on the part of the writers. I don't have a thing against gays--just explicit, in-your-face scenes. There would be nothing wrong with a subtle gay storyline.
What's the big deal about being gay?? Bravo days of our lives for spicing things up! @jersey..er..scum, support for gays is INCREASING. I'm straight and I love my gay friends more than ever.
